We have 6 week cycles. Teacher led PD's on different topics.... Right now I am in a questioning/discussion group that has teachers ranging from 1st grade to 5th. Huge waste of time. Not at all what I expected PD to be.
Some schools I know do 3 weeks PD and 3 weeks with your grade discussing implementation/success/failures.

okay- yes that is where are PD's are heading right now....AP led or teacher led....kinda disappointing....for some CRAZY reason I thought we'd have outside professionals once in a while

Yeah I actually had that CRAZY idea that we would have outside professionals teach us as well....then realized this is the DOE and they will not spend a dime to help teachers. Whatever costs the least is what they do.
PD has always been learn, listen and create. Now my colleagues are being thrust into roles they don't want to do and I am being forced to write agendas, bring my own materials, etc to PD. How am I supposed to help my first graders while I am sitting with 5th grade teachers talking about questioning? Ridiculous!

Re: NYC- What do you Monday PDs entail?
We alternate with outside people coming in to give PDs as well as teachers that volunteer to do them. If we don't have a pd scheduled we meet with our departments and work on lessons together. I teach high school.
Our principal sends out a survey monkey asking us what we'd like and he tries to guide the PDs based on what we want.
