Re: K reading in school?
Dd can read sight words and elephant and piggy books. She brought one of our books to school to read to the class but she said her teacher read the book to the class although she wanted to do it.
When my son was in kindergarten books were sent home starting in January. I know they do addition and subtraction in class. They are also working on penmanship.

K reading in school?
Yes. They read every single day in school. Twice a week she brings home s new book to practice reading (she is currently on a level c). In October we had to make a pack of site words.

K reading in school?
we pulled our son out of K because they didn't have him reading at his level at all, and basically ignored him since he was above the class average. he was supposed to meet with a reading teacher who would work at his level, and 6 weeks into school, he hadn't even met the person. suffice to say 7 years later, he's still in private and excelling academically. my younger child also got taken out of public, but she spent 2 years there before we moved her. again, found that the school ignored her reading level, and left her to keep herself busy most of the time. sorry, but i'm not a fan of the public schools and reading curriculums at all.
