Interview Outfit

Do you think black pants and a sweater is ok for an interview? I'd normally wear a suit but I don't have a maternity one. I wear jeans to my current job so I don't have a lot of dressy maternity clothes.

It's at my husbands company so they are well aware of the fact I'm pregnant and at 24 weeks I couldn't hide it anyhow.

Guess it depends on how is formal the company you are interviewing with? Maybe you could wear a maternity button down shirt with just a black suit jacket?

I'd find a jacket that fits and pair it with maternity pants. The sweater is fine under the jacket. IMO, just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you should dress more casually for an interview. You still want to put your best foot foward and show your level of interest and professionalism. The jacket doesn't have to button.

Re: Interview Outfit

I went through IVF to get pregnant and gained a lot of wait during the process, so I don't think any of my suit jackets will even get over my arms.

I can't find a maternity button down that fits. I am extremely short wasted so button down shirts don't fit me well normally. I tried on some at Kohls and Motherhood. Nothing works.

Any other ideas?

I only found out about it yesterday and DH is driving me up to CT tonight. I've barely had time to think about it because with my grandfather dying I've been holding down the fort at my dad's office. AHHH!!!

I don't want to buy a jacket in this size for a single job interview. I am not actively searching for a job. If I was I would purchase one. But I don't have the funds right now to spend money on a suit jacket if I don't actually get this job.

This one just kind of fell on me because its my husband's company and they know I do marketing. And they want him to move to CT, (he has a contract that allows him 1-2 days from home a week) so us both working there will help with that.

I think you will be fine after all they already know and asked about you id bring some of my best work to show off. Some advice i had gotten from one of my female managers once was to not do anything pregnant during an interview like rub my belly. I thought it was sound advice because you dont want them to look at your cute growing bump you want them to pay attention to what your saying. Good luck you will do great.

Interview Outfit

I should mention DH wears Kahkis and polos to work, so its not a formal company, but i do feel the need to be formal in an interview. I have never gone to an interview not wearing a suit. But I have also never been pregnant, working part time, saving as much money as we can, the week before Christmas.

You're probably fine dressing more casual. It really depends on the company, sounds like the culture is more laid back so you should be fine. I can understand not wanting to buy something just for this..if anything you could buy something at Macys or kohls and return it (I know that's not ideal or the nicest thing to do, but people do it everyday lol) ...Macys and Kohls will take back ANYTHING.

Burlington coat factory may have some suits that are cheap. I'd check them out & just get a jacket. Another option is another woman's closet. Try someone who is bigger than you & ask to borrow just the jacket. My mom has some black suit-like jackets that would work for me (not perfectly, but you are making an effort).

You COULD wear a sweater with fancy pants and nice shoes, but I agree, I think it's worth it to wear a suit.

If you buy something, don't forget that you could donate it & get a tax credit.

I agree with this. I think you *could* get away with it but I still think its more appropriate to wear a suit to an interview.

Interview Outfit

I went with a blouse like shirt, black pants and a sweater. They all saw me pregnant only a week earlier in my maternity dress at the holiday party. And they all know I'm working only part time in a casual atmosphere. I think I looked nice, though not as professional as I like. But one of my interviewers was in jeans.

Anyhow I think my portfolio of work was far more impressive then my outfit ever would have been. It went well. I held my own. But it will depend on what they want. They interviewed everything from an internal applicant with no marketing experience to a 10 year ad company professional asking a 3 figure salary. I think they would only hire me if they decided to start with part time and work up to full time, which they might since there success is tied to gas prices and the rupel.
