Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
what field are you interviewing in?
The skirt may be too casual looking but I would opt for a skirt over pants for an interview.

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
If the second outfit is the skirt, I vote pants. I like the skirt a lot, but I would go with a more conservative look for an interview.

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
For me, the pants suit conveys a more serious & professional look for an interview.

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
My dad was one of the jr. vice presidents of Volvo Corporation, the advice he gave me about interviewing was:
Hair pulled back small earrings no perfume knee length skirt suit, preferably navy blue and medium height high heels
There was a study done on this and you are more likely to get a job if you follow these standards of appearance. The no perfume thing is incase the person you are interviewing is allergic or doesn't like the smell.

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
I was going to suggest that the outfit should match. It should be a suit that matches both pieces.
Maybe it's time to go shopping?

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
Tania, is the jacket plain black and the pants black pinstriped? I think that would be fine, as long as the 2 black tones are not completely different, so it doesn't look off.
Also, I always interview in pants. I am so uncomfortable in suit skirts, that I think I would fidget too much in them and it would not make a good impression to a prospective employer. You have to be somewhat comfortable to look professional, IMO.

yes they are.
yeah, I completely know what you are saying.
Especially since I want to make the best impression since not only I need this job but it would be perfect for me.

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
Do you have a black skirt or pants that is a similar material to the jacket?
Do you know much about the work environment?

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
not really, i got the blazer at Target but they didn't have the pants in my size so i only bought the jacket.
well it's a market research firm that basically hires mistery shoppers to go do research and investigate how consumers shop.

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
Then I say just go with the pants.... If it was a recent purchase, is there a chance that the store may have your size in the pants now?

I know what you mean. My first paycheck has already been accounted for and I don't even get it until May 17!
Go with the pants that you have and do your best on the interview. Good Luck!

Re: Which outfit is better for an interview?
I think either outfit is best-- since it is not a matching suit-- I would pick the bottom that matches the top the best-- you know- sometimes blacks clash, etc.
I think for a market research firm- you can wear either or-- it is not a conservative financial services organiztion- and I am sure that the office is a little more casual. I would also think about which you would feel more comfortable, and therefore more confident in.
I never wear a suit on an interview-- but I work in advertising/marketing- so it's more creative and I can get away with it- but, as long as your outfit looks smart, pulled together and professional- you are ok.
