Special Ed or ESL
Which license do you think is more in demand and would lead more to an immediate job? The amount of classes and price is the same, so it's really a matter of making the person more marketable.
What do you think?

Re: Special Ed or ESL
I would say ESL. So many people are graduating with dual certifications now (one being SE) and ESL is still high is demand.

Special Ed or ESL
Both are good, but I would say Special Ed, only because you can have ESL students in a SpEd class. I think there is a wider range of jobs in that area. I am not ESL certified, but I teach special ed and many of my students receive ESL services

Re: Special Ed or ESL
My suggestion is that you pursue the license area you really want. It takes a very special love and patience to work with struggling students so if you are just looking to pursue those career paths in order to ensure that you will have ease in finding a position, you will be doing yourself and your students a disservice. There are new jobs in every license area every year, especially core subject areas. Best of luck to you.

Special Ed or ESL
Thanks for the advice. The person interested in another license has experience working with and enjoys both ELLs and special education students. This would be in addition to a content certification

Re: Special Ed or ESL
I'm ESL certified and I got a job in NYC DOE rather quickly after I started applying. I have special education students in my class as well.
I think both specializations are high in-demand.

Re: Special Ed or ESL
With the new law coming out (part 154), I would definitely lean toward ESL or TESOL certification... I know my district has a high ESL population and they are scrambling to get teachers certified to cover all the new minutes..
