What sort of things does your speech therapist do with your two yr old?

Ours pretty much just plays and emphasizes using two-word phrases and sings some basic songs.

Is this typical?

I feel like it's nothing I couldn't do myself. I was expecting a lot more. It's been a couple of months like this. She says she doesn't want to pressure him. (?)

My sons therapist brought games played, read books etc.
He was 2yr at time & only needed speech for 6 months. (I honestly don't think he ever really needed speech)

A lot of the same. Plus a lot of cloze method stuff. A lot of trying to assign words to action (throwing something and going "boom" after...winding a car and saying "go" before releasing.

Like you I was getting frustrated so I tried prompt therapy. You should google it if not familiar. It made me feel better that we were "doing" something but at the end of the day, my sons language kicked it when he wanted it to....the speech therapists try to build receptive language so that when the expressive kicks in, they will have a great vocabulary. This is exactly what's happening with my son. Good luck!

DS is 5 now, but from what I remember she'd bring some interactive toys or blocks. He'd either sit on the floor or in the highchair. Repeating words and using the actions with the toys.
SHe gave me a list of things to buy to help with mouth exercises so when they'd start she'd use the tools and have him put them in his mouth. It was always their "warm up" when she got there so he knew to get the tools each time.
She also worked with him on food bc he had sensory issues.

I don't get to see what his speech therapist does since he's now at a school but when he was receiving services at home, the speech therapist would bring over toys for him to play with and repeat words like "open!" "close!" while playing with the toys

My ds has been receiving speech since 2. He will be 3 in a month. I honestly see such a little difference that im at my wits end. The therapist repeats words over and over and they play games. She asks him ?s etc. Im not blaming her. But the method itself. I dont think its really working. Im OOS so its not a NYC based therapist.

Our speech therapist has a notebook and each session she adds something to the notebook. Each week has a theme. Animals, body parts, family... She works on having DD answer questions and then they sometimes do some iPad games.

Ds has been receiving speech since 15 months (now 2 years 2 months). She does prompt therapy with him, so brings her own toys or plays with ours and basically prompts him to label everything.
