Ronkonkoma Home help

Hello all me and my fiancé are looking to buy later in the year while the interest rates are low. We both may combine 65,000 and are looking to up our salaries. I make 1000 extra month by working a side job. Our budget is at most $350,000. We want to keep our taxes low.

We have been looking in Ronkonkoma. We're looking to raise a family and find a home that is at least 1500 ft.² perhaps a ranch or a high ranch. 3 beds 2 bath.

I have been using a website to see what is the safest areas and of the eight areas we looked at an area that has streets that are considered safe and the 2nd best area. Upon looking on another website where you can see the colors are red and yellow and green, it showed red and orange on a few streets (red, orange and yellow being "crime" or not so good parts?)

I'm looking to speak the people who actually live in the area and can help us find a couple of streets or areas that are safe and good for raising kids with taxes under 9k if not lower. The lower the better but safety also good.

We come from Nassau County families and that means living in homes in really nice suburban areas. I'm talking $600,000 homes in suburbia on the North Shore.

We understand the parts of Suffolk are rough around the edges and we are fine with that as long as the area is safe and we feel safe in that area.

We were looking into Farmingville but then I realize that for a price range the area is really weren't what we were looking for. The looking to feel of the areas as well as the chain-link fence and beware of dog signs worse things that we felt uncomfortable with.

We have an option of putting down $120,000 on a home or waiting until 2017 and putting down $200,000 on a home more west of Suffolk. If we decide to buy later this year it's going to be probably in November or December or so.

We want to start a family in two or three years. High school is important as Connetequot and Sachem are our top picks.

Some of the streets and maybe people can let us know if these are okay areas or good areas to raise a kid/family are (And this is based off of a crime data site - not sure how accurate)

It seems that a few blocks north and a few blocks south of the LIE are what this website that I researched crime data on feels to be two of the three safest areas.

If we try to go for paying low payments since our salaries with somewhat below would we be okay with buying something in the 280s or 290s compared to something in the 350s? Thanks.

Re: Ronkonkoma Home help

Those areas you listed are within in 3 different school districts. sachem, connetquot, and middle country. You should start narrowing it down by the sd you want. Some I f the streets are also in Lake Ronkonkoma but sometimes are listed just as ronkonkoma. Areas of Ronkonkoma near the lake can be a little sketchy. Most of Ronkonkoma is pretty good. I wouldn't go to crazy. You could also look at Holtsville, holbrook and Lake grove for your budget.

Ronkonkoma Home help

I live in an area right by the lake and feel completely safe. When looking in this area, I wanted to avoid south of the LIE for several reasons -- LIRR noise and Macarthur Airport noise. We've been here for 3 years with no complaints.

And this is personal preference but I am personally not a fan of the area between Rosevale/Ocean and the LIE. Streets are very narrow and hilly. Again, that's personal preference.

I know people in the Hathaway Oaks section of Ronkonoma / Lake Grove (Beaumont / Lowery ave). It seems like a nice quiet and safe area that would fit your bill. I believe it's Sachem SD.

Re: Ronkonkoma Home help

I work in Ronkonkoma and live the next town over. The areas around the lake arent my favorite, by they are by no means unsafe. I go down there for lunch all the time and Ive never felt unsafe. Rnkonkoma is a fine area, nothing wrong with it. My BFF lives off Patchogue Holbrook right by the elementary school and her neighborhood is really nice, great people, perfectly safe. I dont think Id feel unsafe in any area of Ronkonkoma though. I take my kids to parks there all the time.

I have to say, this is your second post like this and I think you are going about htis all wrong. You cant go by those crime maps, some of them are just indicative of very minor crimes, its not like they indicate murders. Plus like PP said you also have to check out the districts the houses you are looking at are in. That would be a big factor for me.

I feel like you have this feeling that suffolk is "unsafe" as some towns are "rough around the edges" bc you come from Nassau and are therefore used to "really nice suburban areas" - I dont find that to be the case in suffolk, short of being in one of the "bad" towns with very high crime rates or gang activity (which nassau has too BTW), youre going to be just fine. I think your first hurdle is to get over this misconception you have of Suffolk overall.

Seriously, I dont know if its intentional or not, but you are coming off very poorly and snobbish in your 3 posts all asking the same thing.
