Would you throw Uggs in the washer?
One of my Uggs apparently got dragged out of the garage and into the driveway by my SUV and was there quite a while. I'm assuming it was under the tire or something, who knows. It's dirty, gross and sopping wet. They're only a year old and (were) in great condition. I'm grossed out now though.
Do you think I could run it through the washer and air dry or put it on the shelf in the dryer on a low or air setting? I might try it regardless because my other option is the trash I'm thinking.

I think I would bring it to a dry cleaner who cleans suede, before I would put it in the washer

I wouldn't. Is it made of suede? Plus the sherpa lining. I'd go the dry cleaner route

Re: Would you throw Uggs in the washer?
I feel silly asking but my question is, how do drycleaners work? I have rarely used them, only for formal occasion clothes. Do they really deep clean things?
I'm under this (probably wrong) impression that they don't really wash things, but spray them with chemicals to take away odors and spot remove stains. This is probably wrong? I just feel like you can't really get something clean without soap and water.
Also, are there any dry cleaners that don't use chemicals? I don't mind them for a dress that I'll be in for a few hours but for something that will be on my bare feet repeatedly, I'm nervous about chemicals.

There are definitely organic dry cleaners out there. I have seen signs before.

My friend washed hers and they got ruined. I'd take them to the cleaners.

Did the lining stay fluffy or did it get balled up?

I put my black slippers in the hand wash cycle and the inside wasn't as soft but no pilling. Same with the suede. Didn't ruin them though. Worth trying, let us know what happened.

if your other option is the garbage, what do you have to lose?
I'm not a fan of dry cleaning things that are outright DIRTY - I just skeeve dry cleaning in general and wish I could put ALL of my clothers in the machine w/ soap and hot water !!

I just read in the issue of parenting magazine that I got yesterday that 90% of the items that say dry clean only you can actually put in the wash. Whether or not that is true...no idea.

I totally believe this. I really hate dry cleaning and the chemicals scare me. Aside from DH's work suits/shirts and a few other items, I don't dry clean anything. I can usually tell if it's actually machine washable and wash many "dry clean only" items. They almost always come out fine.
eta- I'm just not sure about the Uggs. I still haven't been brave enough to do it. I will post back if I do.

I hate dry cleaning too. It's horrific chemicals. So I wash all work things and button downs in cold water with natural detergent. Air dry it all and bring to dry cleaners so they can press it with steam. So it looks the same and is actually clean. As far as the uggs I would take to an organic cleaner or let them dry out and try spot cleaning or brushing them.
