without getting into too much detail, I would like to speak to a mortgage broker about the amounts of $ we need to have where (equity vs. down payment vs savings) so that we can plan/ move in the next few years.

Please send me suggestions.

I am in Eastern Suffolk and don't want to drive too too far. I won't be visiting for a few months, but would like to get some names / contacts ASAP.

My go to recommendation is Steve Simpson at U.S. Mortgage Corporation. They are based in Melville, but Steve works out of Levittown (but could probably go to Melville if necessary).

He is very knowledgeable and experienced. He is also extremely honest and doesn't try to push people into situations over their heads. I've recommended him to a lot of clients on here who have had good experiences with Steve/U.S. Mortgage. I also recommended him to family members of mine who bought a house last year.

U.S. Mortgage is a mortgage bank/direct lender. They fund their own loans (and then re-sell them). They are like Continental (which I've also had good experiences with, in terms of loan processing time, etc.... although customer service varies depending on who you deal with).
