How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
I brought my son over to my friend's house today who also has a kindergartener but in a different district. She showed me the packet of homework that was given out and needed to be completed by the end of the week. I dont know if I should be worried or relieved. My son get nowhere near the amount of homework that her son did. Her son also had graded tests. Both of our children attend full day kindergarten. Curious to see what other districts are doing.

Re: How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
My son who is in a full day kindergarten gets a two page math assignment to do each night plus his reading which is about 6 small books that are his reading level. We also practice his sight words about 4 times a week but thats something I add it not something his teacher sends home.

How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
We get about 12 sheets a week; the packet comes home on Monday and is due back the following Monday. Some are quick, some a bit longer. We get a bag of 5 reading books in addition to the library boom for the week. There are graded assessments however I dont think they are presented as tests to the kids. My Dd gets one with each chapter. Hw is also graded. IMO its a bit much.

A number grade and not just a star or checkmark?

How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
We get a packet each Monday, due on Friday. It's usually two pages per day, one math one reading/phonics. In addition the readers come home twice a week, DD has to read us two books. We also practice sight words nightly. All in all it takes 20-30 mins/night but that's because there's a lot of coloring involved too.

Yes; they get a number grade as well as an assessment sheet indicated if they are not meeting standards, meeting, etc. We have to sign sheet and return. HW is also graded out of 4.

One sheet a night and a small book. Also review popcorn words daily. We are 1/2 day K. No tests but teacher assesses their number and reading progress, no stress involved.

How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
One sheet (both sides) for math and one sheet for reading (letter sounds, end sounds, etc) THe sheets come home and are due the next day. No homework on Fridays. Stars for homework but worksheets during class have "grades" like 19/20 not an actual grade.

Re: How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
None. Zero. Zilch.
Let me tell you...I'm not happy about it. I've actually spoken to both the teacher and principal about it. In our district homework is not mandatory in Kindergarten. However I feel it puts us at a disadvantage. First off, its going to be a real surprise to him next year when he actually has homework and projects to do in 1st grade. And secondly, I have no idea what my son is learning or where he's falling short if I'm not sitting there helping him with homework at night.
Yet one district over from us the parents all say their children get sent home with a packet of homework per week.

Re: How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
Three nights of reading and site words. (T-W-Th) Two nights with 1-2 worksheets (T-Th). When the worksheet has a lot of writing, it can take us up to 30 min to finish, but overall it seems like the right amount to me. Worksheets are graded with a star.

Re: How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
Weekly sight words to be memorized and a graded test at the end of the month on them.
Weekly journal page given Monday and due by Friday. They have to write 4-5 sentences about a given topic and draw a picture to go along with it.
2 pages of a math workbook per night Either a reading sheet ( front and back) or using sight words to make sentences/writing the sight words 5 times each.
Homework isn't graded just checked off.

Re: How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
We're in CT, but when DS1 was in full day K last year, he didn't have too much homework. He had a project to do once per month. He was supposed to read or to be read to 15-20 minutes each night. He also had maybe a few work sheets to do each week. Starting in January, he brought a book home each week to read, but it was geared towards kids who just started reading and was well below his reading level.
He definitely has more homework this year in 1st grade, but it's very manageable. I'm really surprised how much homework kids in other areas get. The amount of homework DS1 has seems to be the norm in our area. From what I read on here, I think the amount of homework is pretty excessive for young kids and can easily turn them off from learning and school.

Re: How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
Homework for my Kindergartener...
Math sheet front & back each night M-Th
Another ditto sheet, usually one page, each night M-TH
Sometimes they have book reports one a week.
Sight words review every night, each week we introduce 3 new sight words into the mix.
Reading - 10-15/night
Recently they've been having weekly spelling tests on 5 words. One night write the word 3x, the other rainbow write the word, the next use the word in a sentence & then Th, study for graded test on Friday.

Re: How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
Not much. Basically 2 hand outs a day. One is math, one is ELA (such as write a sentence then illustrate or one or two sentences about the book and illustrate). They are asked to read 20 mins a day. They get a reading folder and their reader and a few words comes home, I like my kid to be a kindergartener. But even she would like more. She is reading at the capped level and has finished the sight words so her teachers giving her more. Teacher supplements her work by letting her write books. At home we give her more challenging reading.

How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
My daughter gets a 4 page packet every Monday and it's due Friday. Actually, it's technically 3 pages and the 4th is the weekly sight words, but I add on to it and have her write sentences for each word. The packet is stupidly easy, too.

Re: How Much Homework Does Your Kindergartener Get?
My son I kindergarten had way too much, monthly book reports, two diaramas, huge poster board. Weekly writing assignments, spelling tests, multiple pages of math. It was horrible and way too much. We both cried all the time. His kindergarten experience was horrendous.
We moved to a new district. My daughter does not have any mandatory homework. She received the go math workbook at the beginning of the year. She finished it the first week of February.
In January she brought home small level readers and they are level D, but she reads at a level L at home.
I picked up a workbook from costco so she would not be bored and I want her to get in the habit of doing homework. She needs to work on spelling, writing and speech though.
