Vent TMI
I'm 20 weeks. I've been ill with some sort of illness for well over a month, maybe even 2. I've had multiple colds, coughs, and an awful stomach virus. I can't even go a week in between illnesses. It sucks bc pregnancy-wise, I'm fine! And I am sick of peeing a little bit every single time I cough. I constantly need to wear a pad but I'm seriously considering getting depends bc it's just so gross. Kegels aren't helping at all. Today I went to the bathroom, made sure I was completely empty, got up to wash my hands, coughed and peed. I can't anymore! I'm done! And it's not fluid, definitely pee. I guess that's a plus?
On the bright side, with as sick as I've been, at least my 13m old DD has remained healthy!

Re: Vent TMI
My sympathies completely!!! After having my first baby, this has easily been my #1 complaint about my body after baby... the fact that I can't cough, go running like I used to, etc without leaking! It's embarrassing and like you, Kegels haven't helped I feel for you and hate it too....

The weird thing is that after DD was born, I didn't have these issues... only while pregnant! I had it when pregnant with her but it stopped after she was born.

Re: Vent TMI
I feel you on being sick for a while! I started off this pregnancy at 5 weeks with a nasty stomach virus. Then around 12w I got my first cold/cough that led me to be on amoxicillin for 10 days, still didn't get better, got sick again with a sinus infection for 2 weeks. I finally get better from that and then another chest congestion starts. thank god it didn't progress into another cold/cough that much. this was all from 12w-19w. Im currently 21 weeks and still have a little congestion through the day but nothing sever. its so weird because im having a dd again and im pregnant the same exact months as I was with my first, so its not like a change of seasons. hope u feel relief soon!!

Don't live like this! Go to a gyno-urologist!! They can give you exercises/refer you to a pelvic floor physical therapist/assess if you have a prolapse.
I went last week (although not for incontinence issues). Here is her advice: Pee then wait 10 seconds and then try to pee again. Do 6 sets of kegels for 6 seconds each 6 times a day.
I am also thinking about getting the Hab-it video which many people have had success using.

Re: Vent TMI
I hear you and completely agree! I am pregnant with #3 and every time I laugh, sneeze or cough I pee and it is disgusting. I have had a cold/allergies for about 10 days and every single time I cough/sneeze it causes me to pee myself. Thank you 3 children for this! I go through more liners in a day lately than ever before. Hope you feel better and know you are definitely not alone!

The cough may not be due to illness. it might be from the pregnancy. i had it for my entire pregnancy with DS....yup peed all the time. Wore pads all the time. I would actually suggest the poise pads that are made for bladder leaks. The good news.....it went away the day I gave birth....it was crazy....I was up in my room after delivery and the cough was gone.

I'm definitely sick. Stupid cold, nasty mucousy cough and nasal congestion. I have poise pads but I accidentally bought the really thick ones so I feel like I'm wearing a diaper!

I had a cold too that wouldn't go away and it turned out to be a sinus infection. One day on medicine and I was much better. Go see a dr! Feel better.

Thank you for sharing!!! I have a feeling I haven't been doing them often enough to yield the best results but it does semi-interfere with my day to day life. I was an active runner before my first baby, even ran a half marathon preggo! But post-pregnancy my first thought about running is "oh god, how far can I go before I pee myself??" I will visit the dr about this because I'm too young to have this!! 6 sets of how many, 10 for 6 seconds each?
To the OP - since you didn't have any issues after your first, just when preggo, maybe it's just the added pressure from your growing uterus?

I too ran frequently while pregnant, but my issue is related to my fast delivery (who knew that was a curse!). Of a "big" baby
My dr said do 6 kegels for 6 seconds each 6 times a day.
I'm going to order the video tonight. It was made by a pt who had weakened pelvic floor/prolapse. I'll let you know how it is.
