Honestly, with Amazon or Diapers.com, you barely need to stock up…..it just becomes more stuff taking up closet space.
That said, my plan is to get a small package of newborn diapers, plus 2 cases of size 1. DS1 skipped the newborn size altogether….

Dont stock up until after your shower either. I have a million size 1s and 3s from my diaper cake, and other fancy presents people made with diapers. Plus several people gifted diapers to me. They are a good filler if you've spent below what you wanted to spend.

we had about 60 NB (grew out a little before we ran out), 250 sz 1 (we used up but probably should have switched earlier - we were getting leaks).
i wouldnt stock up before shower either. get a few brands- we liked huggies early on and pampers later. when i stocked up, i would get a couple different sizes. i have a bunch up to size 3.
recommendations online are 350 between nb/ 1 (i would get only sz1 if u can) 6-800 each for sizes 2 & 3.
when in doubt, buy a size higher.

Diaper deals come and go all the time. There's really no need to stock up since the sales happen so frequently. Like others said, you won't know which ones you'll like so don't go crazy. DD2 is a peanut and still in size ones at 5 months. My first was in nb for at least 6 weeks and then was in and out of size ones quickly after that.

I usually get 2 boxes of newborn and 1 size 1 case. My deliveries have always been preterm 35 or 36 weeks and under 6lbs so the newborn were essential for me.
By the time you go through a case of size 1 you may be ready for size 2 so don't stock up too much.

My DD was in Newborn for 3.5 weeks, but when she outgrew them it was over night. Luckily I had 1s stocked up. Now that she's in 1s I just went out and bought a small package of 2s. Should be a while but I want to be prepared when it happens. But they are right, diaper sales happen often. Coupons for Pampers and Huggies are fairly easy to find, so I stopped stocking up, except for a small pkg in the next size, because I did that with a big Huggies sale and I hate them. Plus they were taking up an entire shelf in her closet.

I'm on #4 and 2 of them needed a different diaper than the 3rd while one had a reaction to one brand the other did not... also one kid used to pee right out of them so we needed a different brand.

My 7lb5oz baby was in nb diapers for about a month!
