Ok so i'm now using the clearblue OPKs. I have a very regular cycle so I'm pretty sure I know when I ovulate. If I am correct, that would be on Monday.

So, I was wondering:

Should we be holding off until we get the smiley face (probably tomorrow or Sunday)?

or

Should we be trying now?

DH and I have been "trying" like every 2-3 days or so.. I've heard from friends that waiting too long would mean that alot of the sperm are dead, though. So, if we wait until I ovulate, could alot of them be dead? On the flip side, if we try tonight, is it true that there won't be a high sperm count when I'm ovulating?

Please don't respond with "don't worry just relax and it'll happen" because I am relaxed. I am just trying to become a little more knowledgable with this stuff and google doesn't really provide answers, lol

from what i *think* happened when i got pregnant according to my tracker lol.. we had sex 3 days before ovulation, the day of, and 3 days later. just by chance, no planning. not sure which one did the trick

Every other day is a good schedule to follow. Once you get a smiley you can do every day.

I've never heard that before about sperm, you should ask a doctor to Be sure. Shaun and i had sex once in April. And i got pregnant.

If you think you are going to ovulate tomorrow then you should have sex tonight. The sperm can live for a few days inside of you. When I was ttc my RE recommended having sex a day or two before I ovulated to ensure that we did not miss the window--unless you Dh has a low sperm count I would not worry about having too much sex.

you can have sex every other day until you get the smiley and then have it everyday for the next few days.

the sperm thing:
sperm can "live" inside you for up to 5 days. ideally you want the sperm there waiting for your egg. so that is why you want to have sex before you ovulate. so when the egg drops the sperm are already there. but depending on when you had sex before you ovulate i guess they could be "dead".

i was a little crazy and tried to do things to keep the sperm "alive" longer. i used preseed and i took mucinex to give them a good environment until i ovulated.

My doctor recommended a simple "every other day for ten days" regimen. She recommended starting at day 10 of my cycle.

I'll be 33 week PG this week.

we had sex every other day starting from around cd10 until a few days after I ovulated. I would get my smiley around cd17 or cd18. I used the target brand opks and found they worked better this time than the clearblue easy. when I got my smiley we had sex for 3 days straight I think. good luck!!

I followed "deannas plan" which is pretty much what the pp said. Every other day beginning day 10 then when you get your smiley bd that day and the next two days after that

I got pg the day if. I really suggest temping in conjunction with opks to be sure you are in fact ovulating when the opk indicates. I found I actually ovulated 3 to 4 days after a smiley. Good luck!!!

I haven't read everybody else's responses yet so I'm not sure if I'm repeating any of them, but I will say that every body is different. What works for some won't for others. In my case, while TTC #1 I used to ONLY DTD on the day of my smiley and that worked for us! (Got pregnant 4 times in a row, first try, though 3 ended up chemicals). While trying for #2 suddenly it wasn't working for us. When I did conceive this one, I had gotten my smiley on Sunday, but we had DTD Friday, Saturday, & Sunday (it was a fun weekend) I am very regular so I had a good idea of when I'd ovulate (I think I assumed it would be that Saturday) so I wanted to get it done the day before and the day of. But we ended up getting it on 2 straight days before and day of instead. One of those was jackpot!

thanks everyone! Another question, lol sorry... I thought I was ovulating today, based on the fact that I have a regular 28 day cycle, but I haven't gotten a smiley face yet. Should I have gotten one yesterday or the day before if I was ovulating today? Or am I not understanding how these work haha

You should have gotten a smiley face if you were ovulating today. Have you tried tempting? This is the only way to confirm O. It is possible that you O later than you think and have a short luteal phase which can cause difficulties getting pregnant.

To answer your first question. DH and I BD the two days before O. We tried the every other day and three days in a row once we got a smiley but BD quickly became a chore and it wasn't fun anymore. To reduce the stress we felt like we should just concentrate on my most fertile days which is the two days before O and O day.
