Ulta salespeople

Does anyone find that anytime you are in Ulta and even set foot into the "prestige" cosmetics area, they jump all over you like a shark?

Can I help you?
Are you looking for anything specific?

I really hate it.

When I go shopping, for ANYTHING, I like to be left alone. If I need help, I'll find you and ask. I don't like people standing over me, I feel pressured.

I don't want your advice. I don't want you trying to sell me $100 worth of shit that I don't need. I don't want you judging my skin or the current makeup I' am wearing. I know what I want, and I'm pretty confident in it.
GO AWAY

It has gotten to the point that I try to avoid setting foot in that area at all. If I need to replenish my Stila eyeliner or my Bare Minerals I find myself running over, grabbing it so fast and retreating to the safety of the drugstore brand area where nobody bothers you!

It has gotten to the point that as soon as I see them approaching out of the corner of my eye I say, "I'm good thanks!" and won't even make eye contact.

Ok, vent over! Chat Icon

Re: Ulta salespeople

Yes! I despise pushy sales people! I know it's their job to ask, but I feel like it puts customers off and works to their disadvantage. I hate being bothered when all I really want to do is browse. My favorite is when 10 different sales people come up to you asking if they can help you. Like I'm just being selective and waiting for the 11th to offer so I can finally say sure.

It's why I prefer online shopping in my pajamas. Between ebates, coupon codes, amazon prime and not dealing with traffic, parking, and pushy sales people I see no reason to shop in stores anymore. I usually get better deals online than in the store, too.

Ok, I must walk around looking like a disheveled pauper because I can NEVER find anyone in there to help me. I never go in their to browse, just when I need something and sometimes I can't find whatever I'm looking for.

Once I got so fed up I loudly told my mom we were heading to Sephora as we left.

I prefer online too. THis last time I wanted to try a new makeup recommended on here and wanted to take a look at the colors in person to figure out which shade to buy.
But if i can avoid buying prestige cosmetics in there I do!
It has gotten to the point where I'm a total bytch and won't even look at them when they come over.

Yes!! This is me too! Whenever I go into Ulta I find the girls run the other way and purposely avoid making eye contact. Im usually always with my maniac of a toddler, but still, I always go in there to buy something and not just to browse.

I just went to the one in Patchogue to buy that cc cream everyone is raving about. There were 3 girls talking and barely acknowledged me. I then asked for help and she basically said the shade I was holding looked ok and directed me to a station to try it on myself. Aren't they supposed to do that for you? I tried it on myself and she was nowhere to be found. Worst customer service I've ever experienced.

yes, but if you need help with the "cheaper" items like NYC no has the time.

I wrote about that in the last survey they sent me

I do however like to shop at Utla over other places. Makeup shopping or shopping in general makes me anxious and stressed lol

I find that either they are all over you and super pushy or else they have no clue what products they carry or what those products do and are useless even when you do ask for help. I much prefer Sephora and I only go to Ulta for drugstore type stuff.

Re: Ulta salespeople

I haven't noticed that..... But what I have noticed about both Ulta and Sephora is that if I ask a salesperson a question, it's rare they know about specific products. Example: I'll ask for a waterproof eyeliner. They will look around aimlessly until stopping in front if one, if I ask if it works well, they read the box and will be like, "It says it lasts 24/7". Ummmm thanks. I can read. I was looking for a product recommendation!

I went into the one lake grove this afternoon. Not one sales person came up to me. The 3 that I saw on the floor were all talking to themselves.

I didn't want their help anyway because I knew what I was looking for and trying out . But still...not one of them acknowledged me.

BTW: I love the bye bye under eye concealer. That's what I went in there for Chat Icon

Re: Ulta salespeople

I don't like dealing with this ANYWHERE -

I LOVE the White House/Black Market store's clothing. I avoid it like the plague b/c I can not STAND their sales people up your ass as soon as you walk in the door.

My last visit I brought 1 dress to the fitting room ..........she had taken it upon herself to add 8 more

If I LIKED any of those, I would have chosen them myself. Chat Icon
And then when you do pick something it's the immediate upsale - You need a belt, or a necklace or these shoes to complete that outfit .......

no, I don't - GO AWAY !!Chat Icon

Re: Ulta salespeople

The thing I hate about Ulta is they have product reps in there. So if you ask for a product they steer you to their line, even if youd tried it before.

Re: Ulta salespeople

I don't find them too bad at the one in Massapequa. Sure they ask you if you need help but they aren't pushy and when I do ask a question, they are happy to help. They need to get on the sample bandwagon like Sephora though. Sometimes I want to try the product at home and see how I apply it and how it lasts, etc.

In that case I just buy it, try it at home, and return it if I don't like it.
They are awesome about taking back used product

This happened to me at Sephora in Roosevelt field.

I went looking for an urban decay eye shadow. A specific color. A man approached me and he was so confused. He said no we don't have it. Meanwhile I pick it up and say.. here it is... I found it.

I asked him to help me find a new foundation. He happily pulls me aside and says I know just what you need. He keeps insulting my makeup and telling me never to wear pink blush again. Brings over tons of stuff. All the same line. It was okay stuff. But, the point is.. I didn't want someone to see me a line. I wanted to know of ALLLLLL the stuff in the store what would work the BEST.

So I walk out spending hundreds because he totally convinced me that my makeup was crap and I looked awful. My friend works there and i come to find out that it was a sales rep. He never identified himself and was wearing similar clothing to the Sephora staff. I was so MAD!! At them and myself. I felt so taken. He should have identified himself as a sales rep. It was wrong. In the end the stuff was ok. I used it all but, I won't buy it again. It wasn't that great. My friend (actually my kids sitter) was furious and told her manager. She said no Sephora person would insult your makeup and that he should have said he was a rep for the brand. If he had i would have found a sephora employee.

See you are a better person than me because of that assholee would have told me my make up was bad and insulted it I would have probably said- well my makeup can be changed, but what's your excuse for YOUR ugly mug? Are YOU wearing makeup?

Re: Ulta salespeople

They ask me only once at Ulta and I'm fine with that. Sometimes they just help me to locate an item I'm looking for and that's it. In other stores I hate pushy sales people.
