Teacher Gift Opinion
I'm a little irritated by this so I wanted to get opinions.
My kids are 5th, 3rd, and pre-k so I've been doing the whole teacher, bus driver etc. gifts for a while now. Our PTA or Class Moms or whatever do not do a beginning of the year collection or anything like I have read from some mom's on here. I always get our teachers their own gifts from my kids.
So about a week ago my 3rd grader comes home with a note from another mom saying she thought it would be nice if she was to collect 10.00 pp for a teacher gift IF we had wanted to contribute then just send it in labeled in an envelope to her son. I did not contribute because #1) it's already June I purchased my gifts. #2) I like to give separate gifts personally from my own kids.
Yesterday my son comes home with the same letter AGAIN and a handwritten note on it saying "I understand it's a crazy time of the year so you probably forgot"
This pissed me off because #1- who are you? not a class mom and not the PTO.
#2- I'm glad you had this wonderful idea but not everyone needs to participate AND if you had this plan it probably would of been best to coordinate a little sooner.
Ugh ok vent over...maybe I'm just a raging lunatic since I'm 33 weeks pregnant but people like this annoy me to no end.

Teacher Gift Opinion
I never contribute to the class collection, and prefer to always get my own gift. However, I've never gotten a collection request prior to the last month of school. So I think collecting in June is not uncommon.
My guess would be she's new to this so she assumes everyone contributes. I'd just send the envelope back with a note inside saying, no thanks I already purchased my own gift. Or, I'd ignore it again depending on my mood. It is annoying that she sent it home a second time. Probably because no one responded.

Re: Teacher Gift Opinion
I always just gave the $10 as I never had the time at the end of the year to get something else. I think it is common too to get it right at the end of the year as June was always a crazy money month for me when the kids were in elementary school.

Which I understand is convenient for some, but the ones that don't need this...I think it's rude to say they must be forgetful and send another reminder.
Your first note pretty much says optional so if you don;t get a response back I think it's safe to say were not interested.

Re: Teacher Gift Opinion
I am the class mom and I am responsible for the class gift. I sent out a letter approximately 2 weeks ago. I am collecting $5/teacher.
I have about 10 kids that didn't send money in out of 23. I would never send a second note but just assume that the parent wasn't interested in contributing.

Re: Teacher Gift Opinion
I would be a little annoyed, but I would just send a note back saying, no I didn't forget. We already purchased teacher gifts before the initial note was received. And leave it at that.

Teacher Gift Opinion
I collect for our class gifts and send out a reminder note right before the money is due. I could care less if everyone participates but a lot do forget and then send in the money at the last minute. If you don't want to contribute just throw out the note. I really see no issue with that at all. Actually most people in the class responded one way or the other either via text/facebook or calling and those saying they were not contributing did not receive a reminder.

Re: Teacher Gift Opinion
I usually do my own gifts and this year I received a reminder too! I caved in to the pressure and sent it although I bought my own already.

I understand that. I think some people might put it on the side though and want to contribute and would forget if they didn't get a second notice. I would think after the second note, the person would get the idea the person does not want to contribute.

Ditto. I asked once and send out a reminder email about a week ago. And if I don't get from everyone I still say the gift is from the class

Re: Teacher Gift Opinion
Honestly, while I see your point, I do think you are overreacting a bit. In my DD's school the class moms/PTO are not allowed to do class collections for gifts. So, many times, a mom in the class will take it upon themselves to do what this mom in your post has done. In my experience, parents usually welcome it but, not always and those that want to contribute do and those that don't, don't. I think this mom was probably just trying to do a nice thing and, was reaching out to everyone a second time in case the note didn't make it home etc. to make sure everyone that wanted to be included was and she could go out and get the gift and not have stragglers. She is just trying to do something nice - maybe you don't love her delivery but, I certainly wouldn't say anything. JMO.

Re: Teacher Gift Opinion
Overreacting, it went to everyone that didn't contribute as a last chance reminder. Throw it out and move on. Also, I've had children in school for many many years and have never seen them ask for the end of year collection money at the beginning of the year. Class party money yes, teacher gift no.

I didn't expect it for the beginning of the year I was saying I know some people on here their school's do that but ours does not so everyone just gets their own.

This.
It's not personal. It's a crazy time of year for everyone and I'm sure the note was just a reminder sent out to everyone, possibly even to those who already did contribute.

Re: Teacher Gift Opinion
I honestly don't see the big deal regarding the reminder. Our class mom sent a email 2 weeks ago asking if anyone wanted to contribute and than a reminder a couple of days before the money was due I would of just sent a note back stating you already purchased a gift on your own.
