IUI vs. IVF
DH and I have a big decision to make in the coming weeks. Should we try IUI or be more aggressive and go straight to IVF. The chance of getting pg through IUI seem to be a lot slimmer than if we were to have IVF.
Anythoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated on this issue. Did everyone here try IUI first or did you go straight to IVF??

I tried IUI first but it was a waste of time for me.
What are your infertility issues? That makes a big difference.
I know a few people who got pg on IUI, but more who were successful with IVF. Do you have insurance? What does it cover?

I will be in the minority who stuck it out with the IUI's for a WHILE. Plus the IUIS got us ready for this crazy ride. IVF is to me a very emotional and time consuming venture. It takes a LOT out of you physically and mentally.
We had 13 iuis before moving on to IVF. Mianly due to the Cost. Yes IUIS were a much less success rate for us, but they were covered under my insurance and didnt cost over $15K a pop. AND when we didnt get a BFP, we still felt like we had "another chance". IVF felt very final to us, as it was finacially impossible for us to do more thenone without having to save for years in between.
It also depends on your diagnosis. That to me would be the main deciding factor.

DH has a very low sperm count. My RE said that there has to be at least 10mil healthy sperm for the IUI to be successful. DH doesn't have that.

Honestly, with that news, if it were me, I would go right to IVF.
We did 3 IUI's with low sperm count and low motility and none of them stuck.
It's such a small percentage of success for MF with IUI and a much higher rate of success with MF and IVF.
I mostly did IUI because DH wanted to do that first. I would have gone straight to IVF.
Some people like to do IUI first just to give it a try and, like Donna said, because it's much less invasive and expensive than IVF.
If you feel you need to ease into the treatment process, than IUI first makes sense to me.
Good luck with whatever you decide. It's so hard to know what is the right thing to do!

I totally agree with this. MF works much better via the IVF route..lots of luck with whatever you decide!
