Anti-Anxiety Meds and Pregnancy

I have been suffering on and off for a few years with anxiety and I have taken Zoloft in the past to manage it. I was not on it when I learned I was expecting and I had been able to manage it pretty well on my own. However, since my third trimester started, my anxiety has ramped up again and I feel like it's getting out of my control Chat Icon My OB prescribed me Zoloft again and said it is safe to take, but I'm afraid. I'm so torn between managing my symptoms and waiting it out for the safety of the baby...

Anyone have any experience? Feel free to FM if it's too personal.

Yes it is safe to take. In fact, newest research has shown there to be little to no affect on babies. It is better that you feel less anxious and have lowered blood pressure than to worry about feeling that way and not take the meds.

This is pretty much word for word what OB and prescribing doctor say.

I have read Zoloft is safe. I hope you feel better. I have anxiety on and off but I dont take meds (I dont find mine that frequent/severe so I dont have a dr). There have been times when I really found it unbearable. My cousin is a nurse and she told me to take a benadryl to take the edge off. I have done this a bunch of times. I also use meditation/breathing exercises/walking. I just mention it because if you are without a prescription it can help you. But please talk with your doctor before following my advice. Im just a mom.

Re: Anti-Anxiety Meds and Pregnancy

I had stopped my Zoloft a month before getting my BFP (not for any reason but coincidence) and will be going back on it day I deliver for a year ... If I needed it at any portion of this pregnancy I would totally not hesitate to take ... I have 8 weeks left and feel ok so prob will make it without but not taking it and being depressed and anxious is way worse on the baby then taking it (and as others said all the newest information is it's very safe )
I do take Xanax as needed as I did with my first pregnancy (okd by my doc of course) and all was well first time and now (I get Sonos every 4 weeks for a cord insertion issue; and every test offered bc I'm 35 at time of delv and all came back normal)
