Nuchal Cord?

I'm 32w4d and at my appointment last night they saw that the baby has the cord wrapped around his neck once. They checked the blood flow to the cord and to the baby and everything was fine, my doctor said he sees no signs of compression and that this is very common. He even said that it may not be wrapped around his neck anymore at my next appointment. For now, he told me to just be aware of the baby's movement and to call him if it seems decreased at all.

Of course I'm freaking out about this, anyone have any experience?

No real advice...just hugs Chat Icon

I do know people who've had this situation and it either corrects itself before birth or they unwrap is as soon as baby gets its little head out. If there's no compression, I would just do as dr recommends and stay aware of babys movements and TRY not to stress TOO much (I know, impossible!)

Nuchal Cord?

They noticed my DS had this at my 38 or 39 week appointment. They were not alarmed. I had a vaginal delivery that was relatively uneventful until my last push which I guess tightened the cord. They called in all the nurses, but he was fine when born - a little blue so he scored an 8/10 on the initial apgar test. On the second test, he scored a 9-10. He's had no issues since and didn't need any time in the nicu.

Good luck! I think it's pretty normal and most people don't even know it happens in utero since they do not have sonograms close to birth.

It's actually really rare that they notice it in utero, but it's very common to be wrapped around the baby's neck.

When DS was born via c-section, the cord was wrapped around his neck 3 times, very tightly. DD was born via VBAC and she had a knot in her cord. Neither time did I know anything until the baby was born.

Just make sure you keep feeling the baby and call your dr if you don't. But otherwise, realize this is really quite common and try not to worry.

Nuchal Cord?

I never had a third trimester sonogram and when DD came out she had the cord wrapper around her three times! Doctor said thank goodness it was so long and it didn't cause any distress. But I had no clue while she was in my belly this was going on. As she came out doctor just unwrapped the cord and DD immediately started crying. Now she's a perfect almost 3 month old.
Just monitor movement like your doctor said and everything should be fine!

When dd2 was born, naturally, she came out with the cord around Her neck. It's more common than a lot of people think.

Nuchal Cord?

I'm SHOCKED they even mentioned it to you. It's so common but sounds scarier than it is, so most don't even mention it (this was told to me by multiple doctors and sono techs). While the baby is in there the fluid prevents the cord being around the neck from becoming an issue.
