Childbirth Class
This is my first child. Do I really need to do this? It is offered through Winthrop (you have to pay) and its two sessions - a childbirth class and then a hospital tour/parenting class. Our schedules aren't matching up as every Sunday in September/October we have something going on... Bottom line: is this necessary?

Re: Childbirth Class
IMO no. When I was in labor the nurse asked if I took a class - I said no. She goes ok I will tell you how to push- and she did - in like 2 seconds. And I pushed out DD just fine. I can't imagine a class would have helped with that

Re: Childbirth Class
I didn't deliver at Winthrop, but....
Is it necessary? Definitely not. Is it nice to take, particularly if you're nervous about delivery? Yes. I took it for my first, though he was breech and I wound up having a c-section. I did not take it for my second, but was able to remember relaxation techniques from the class which I used for my VBAC.

Re: Childbirth Class
I didn't take it and was fine without it. The nurses will tell you how to push. We did take a childcare class which was helpful. We learned about things like diapering and bathing.

Childbirth Class
I decided against the childbirth class due to cost. My OB said once I feel pain it will probably all go out the window anyway and the nurses will help. DH and I took a childcare class instead.

Re: Childbirth Class
I didn't take any classes with my first, but I did rent a DVD from the Library Laugh & Learn about childbirth, it was recommended by a friend who is also a doula.

Childbirth Class
After 2 very different birth experiences, I do not think a class could have prepared me for either.

Re: Childbirth Class
I'm in the minority. I did both at Winthrop and was glad I did. I was very nervous having my first and it out me at ease knowing what would take place from the time we got there til the day we left with the baby. It did better prepare me and I was happy I took it.
