Is this normal for Pure Barre (or other popular classes?)
I was on the wait list (#3 on the wait list) for a Pure Barre class on the UWS last night at 7:30pm. At 7:16pm, I got a notification I made it off the waitlist. I had just got home (I live a few Avenues away) but I wasn't going to be able to change clothes and make it to the studio in 14 minutes so I declined. They charged me for the class. I called today and asked for it to be removed and the woman said, "You need to cancel 12 hours before if you can't make it." She said she'd waive it for me "this time." It's not that I couldn't make it, I just couldn't make it in 14 minutes.
Am I crazy to think that right before the class they should see if people could make it from the waitlist but not charge them for the class if they can't get there with the limited time to spare?

Charging you is ridiculous. That's not how the wait list should work. You can't plan around the possibility of taking a class.

I take Pure Barre all the time but on Long Island and that is ridiculous. They can't expect you to be able to make a class with 14 minutes notice. I would complain.. I dont think my studio would do that...

Thanks---good to know I'm not the only one. Apparently they made this policy because of "waitlist abusers" but I definitely would have gone if I got the notification at say, 7pm. I don't know how they expect anyone to make it with 14 minutes unless they are next door.
No more waitlisting for me!

I am signed up for a class tonight and will speak to someone so I understand how this works and see if it varies at different studios. Since they are franchised, I'm assuming it does but good to know LI doesn't do this!

My LI studio does not enforce this policy. The girls there are sweethearts. They have a two hour cancel policy, which they have waived, because $hit happens. And I have been called last minute for wait listed classes which I have politely declined with no problem. The Bar method studio has a very draconian, strictly worded cancel policy which is on large part why I go to PB. I think it's insane! I have little kids and could NEVER commit to a 12 hour policy.

If there is a 12 hour policy to cancel then you should have 12 hours notice that you will be able to take the class. I use to take a class that had a waitlist and that was the policy. Typically though you heard the day before.
