Some advice needed

I am whole heartedly admitting that while I have some significant issues with my self that has caused me to not want to go down the adoption/ fostering process. I am trying to work past those and I realize that my want to me a mom is now bigger than my hatred of myself for not being able to have kids. The reason I am telling you all of this is a. I'm having a really bad night and need to vent and 2. I had tried to start the fostering process last year and then became overcome by my thoughts. I want to try again. Can anyone give me some advice. Thanks

I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a difficult time. I know how overwhelming the adoption process can be. Hopefully, you are in counseling to help you cope/manage with the negative thoughts you have about yourself as well as the stress of adoption/fostering. If you're not, I would encourage you to find a therapist. All the best to you

I totally understand! Adoption is not for everyone, but sometimes you need to go through these emotions to get where you need to be.

i missed this post--- but wanted to respond. my son is adopted from Korea- he was almost 2 when we adopted him, and he is now 5.
i can understand the hesitation and not wanting to go down that route. but, like you said, i think at some point you just realize you just want to be a mom- not matter how that happens.
what i can tell you is that, while adoption may be difficult and require some work to build bonding and attachment with the child----- in the end, that child is YOUR child, just as much as a biological one would be. it you think about it, the being pregnant and giving birth part is only 40 weeks of being a mom. the REAL experience comes with everything after that--- caring for the child, the 1st grade christmas show at school, the helping with homework, the family vacations, the high school sports games, prom, etc,etc,etc.... THAT is what being a mom is, and THAT is what you'll still get to experience with your child that you adopt.... feel free to PM me to chat anytime Chat Icon

Re: Some advice needed

Hello. How are you feeling now? My husband and I went through 5 years of IF and couldn't afford adoption after all the money spent on treatments. I still hate what my body couldn't do, but I've worked through it and I accept it. I still have really ****** days, but I take one day at a time and I don't plan anymore.

IMO, whether you do domestic adoption, international adoption, or foster to adopt. We became certified foster parents a few months ago in the hopes of adopting through foster care. We are still waiting for "the call" and there's been some ups and downs too.

Happy to chat with you if you need someone to talk to. Hope you are feeling better.
