Newbie, not TTC.....yet ;)

Hi ladies! I'm new here, and just have some questions! I am super excited to be almost a part of this board yet terrified bc just like all of you all these years of trying NOT to get pregnant I'm hoping when we want to it goes smoothly!

So, after being on birth control since I was 16..(I am now 33) I just went off a little prematurely than what me and my husband wanted too, due to more spotting than normal...doctor says its bc I have been on the pill for too long. So instead of messing with my hormones and trying different pills my DH and I decided I should get off now. We are hoping to start trying in Jan/Feb (will be married a year) so any tips from now till than? I ordered a prenatal vitamin to start taking, my body is now going through all the changes of getting off the pill and I hate it right now lol. Any suggestions, input to start getting ready but still careful till we are ready to start? I am all ears and can't wait to officially be TTC Chat Icon Chat Icon

Welcome! If you want to start TTC in January/Feb. now is a great time to come off the pill. Most people are advised to come off the pill 3 months before TTC to allow your hormones time to regulate.
TTC can be very nerve racking and very exciting. Try to enjoy it. Don't change too much about your life. Just make healthy choices.
Good Luck! Chat Icon

It's never a bad idea to get to know your cycle. As far as what else you do, it depends on how involved you want to get in charting, OPKs, etc at the beginning. The first time around, I took a let's see what happens approach. I was ready, but not necessarily in a big rush. The second time around, I was ready and didn't really want to waste time guessing when I might ovulate. I found Taking Charge of Your Fertility to be a great book. I only ended up charting the month I was successful, but it really helped me figure out my cycle. It might be helpful to read TCOYF and chart for a few cycles before TTC. I'd also start taking prenatal now. Good luck!
