At what age did you allow dd to go on sleepover?

My dd just turned 8 and is at her first non family sleepover. We don't know the parents well but have met them a bunch of times and been in the house, etc. she has iPad so she can text me but I don't know if this is age kids start this?

Dd slept at my sisters when she was 5... She did ok because my mom was there. Her first real sleepover was at her BFF's when she was 7. And my MIL's a few times she she turned 6. She's slept at both houses since then with no issues.

Probably college, lol. She has had girls I know well sleepover our house. My DD just turned 8. Girls started sleeping over here around 7.

I think she was almost 7 when she went to her first sleepover at her BFF's house. Now at 8, the 2 of them are constantly sleeping at one and other's houses, she's also done one or 2 at other friend's houses. I do like that she has her ipad so I can text her.

Not sure if or when we will allow it.. Quite frankly I don't care for them.

I'm surprised at the answers on this thread. Unless it was very close family, neither DD nor DS would be sleeping over someone's house at this age.

DD will be 8 before the year is out, but all the girls in her class turn 8 sometime next year (after March). One mom has asked about a sleepover, but I'm not comfortable with the idea. She did have a sleepover last year, but it was a result of a babysitting situation, and I've known the mom for 10 years and our kids are 3 months apart and play together as much as our schedules allow.

my ds is 6 and had one sleep over last year with a friend, we were very close to the parents at the time and knew them for a few years...other then that one time it wont happen again until he is older unless it is family

and not because anything happened at the sleepover-they moved away

My older DS started at 8 and even went to sleep away camp for 2 weeks. He's going to a 9 yr old sleepover birthday party tomorrow night on the Intrepid. My little DS is 5 and has slept at his best friend's house- but the mom is my best friend. He hasn't had any yet with school friends.

Both of my kids had sleepovers at the age of 5 BUT they slept over very close friends of ours. My oldest is 7 and I would not allow him to sleep over anyone's house unless I was close with the parents.

Not comfortable at all with a sleepover party and my DD is 7. I wouldn't allow her to go.

i have no problems with them.... they enjoy them

Her first was over the Summer, she is 9 - - I was freaking out, but she did well. In my opinion it is very young when the kids start these things - - but all of her friends have been having them since age 7/8.

First time.. 5yrs old across the street at her BFF. She loved it!
Second time she was 6 and it didn't last this time her BFF had moved further away. New home
Next time she was still 6 but her BFF was turning 7 and it was her birthday party with two other girls. It was a blast
Now she is 7 and she's had 3 sleep overs at our house since she was 6 and has already planned more.

#1 the only place she stays are at girl scout homes. I know the moms very well and the girls and moms have all been together since they were all 5yrs old. Her BFF's mom and I have known each other since I moved into my house in 2010.

#2 When the girls come to my house, I send photos of the festivities to the moms through the night and I always make sure the girl calls their mother before bed time.

I love that the girls have this time. They do make up and giggle and stay up late. It's GREAT. No boy talk or gossip. Just cartoon watching, pizza eating, mary poppins and fun.

Since AJ is an only child, it's easier for us to host. Her BFF is also an only child. The children we host are generally not only children and they are generally very appreciative to have another same age kid to have to play with, no younger sibling to deal with or older sibling to annoy them. We take the guest with us on our adventures to our Botanical Garden or Museum (members) so it's like we gain a kid. So they love it. We love it! She gets a temporary sibling.

DD was 5 for a sleepover birthday party w a family we knew for two years. Since then she has slept over another friend once (she is 6) who is right around the block. We have hosted 5 times as well.

never. I might sound crazy mean but I won't allow my DD to sleep out anytime in the near future

My DS sleeps at his dad's house every other weekend, which of course isn't a sleepover, but he has lived in 5 different places in 3 years.

My point being, I allowed sleepovers at 6, he's used to sleeping over places.

Usually we have the sleepover house though. I have extra boys all the time.

I would not allow my daughter to go to a sleepover and she is nine. Honestly, it is difficult to convince her to sleep at grandma's so I don't see it becoming an issue any time soon!

When I was 8 we were sleeping all over one another's houses. I didn't get molested by anyone. I don't think molestation really works so much like that anyway. I think there's more grooming and trust involved, etc. I have never heard of a single story where something bad happened at a sleepover. Jmo. Obviously I wouldn't send my kids to a house where I don't have a decent relationship with or at least understanding of the parents and their situation.
