Newborn Outfits?

I'm trying to figure out what this baby will need right away. She measured 6 and a half lbs. at 36 weeks but I think most of her weight is in her giant bowling ball head!

I was thinking 8 footies and 8 outfits. Is that too many outfits? Too few footies? It's going to be cold so I can't imagine having her hang around in just a onesie.

its hard to say, Hailey was in NB for a few weeks. But some babies gain quicker.

She was only 6.2 when she was born tho. And it was mostly Sleep N Plays, very few actual outfits.

ETA: So far this time theres no sign that she is going to be small so im not bothering with much NB size stuff. At this point with Hailey i was getting constant growth sonos cause they said she was small.

If you do buy all those NB outfits (unless you have someone to give it to to use) i wouldnt take the tags off until youre sure youre going to use them.

That seems like the right amount of onesies but you probably don't need 8 newborn sized outfits. The fleece footie pajamas are great too. My one month old spends most of his time in one of these swaddled in a blanket

I would not go crazy w/ the newborn outfits. I really only had DD in footie pajamas when she was a newborn.

I am skipping newborn and going straight to 0-3 months. With DD She was born at 7.6 and I hardly used the newborn. Maybe for the 1st week if that. 0-3 is 8-12lbs in Carters. I just bought a bunch of stuff for future DS

I'm not sure what you mean by outfits. For the first few weeks, dd (December baby) wore the side snap long sleeved tee shirt and comfy pants so as not to bother the umbilical cord scab. At night, a stretchie or gown. We had about 8-10 of each,figuring going through 2-3 of each daily depending on the poop and spit up for the day.

Eta: we actually had to buy more newborn sizes. Dd was small at birth and slow to gain weight, and all that extra fabric around the 3 mos clothing made me nervous.

DS was born at just over 5lbs in July. We had 7 footie pajamas with side snap shirts in 0-3 month sizes. He wore these until he was 3 months old. Then he grew so long that he skipped 6 month clothes and went straight to 9 months sizes.

As far as outfits, I had 5 and would only change him for Sunday Mass and dinner with the family. Otherwise during the week he stayed in his footie pajamas all day. He was more comfy that way.

DD1 was born at 7lb5oz and was in NB for about 1.5 months if I recall.

DD2 was born at 7lbs15oz and was in NB for about a month. She could have stayed in some nb outfits longer but she is a long baby.

That sounds good. I didn't have ANY NB clothing because I thought I was having a big baby. Nope. 6lbs 13oz at birth and 7lbs 11oz almost 4 weeks later. Needless to say we had to run out and get quite a few newborn stuff. I've been rotating between 8 footies and like 4 outfits lol. I'm hoping she'll gain more and that I won't have to get more NB stuff.

It is very hard to dress a newborn in outfits. I would only buy one or two outfits. In newborn size I would only buy 4-5 sleep and plays.

It's really hard to say. DS1 never wore newborn size and DS2 was in newborn clothing for 7 weeks or so. We actually didn't have any newborn clothing so SIL had to run out and buy/wash some clothes while I was in the hospital. I would probably just get a few sleep and plays and maybe one or two outfits. You can always buy more clothing after the baby is here if need be.
