Question about promotions
I've been asked multiple times about becoming a team leader which would be a promotion for me. There is already one team leader and we have been approved for a second position. When asked I do say I'm interested and I've been waiting for it to post so I can apply. I was just told since the manager wants to hire from within she may not officially post the position. Is this common? I'm a nurse if the field makes a difference. my manager knows I'm interested. How do I move forward with this!

Question about promotions
Who asked you if you are interested - was it your manager? Since your manager knows you are interested, can you go to her and say you heard the position might not be posted and ask how to put yourself in the running?

Question about promotions
At my old company a lot of times they would groom certain individuals to eventually take on a new role. It wasn't uncommon for a position to open up in order for someone to advance to a higher level position

Re: Question about promotions
Yes my manager did ask me if I'd be interested in becoming a team leader. Then the current team leader was asking me about it too.
I did go ahead and email her that I was interested. Since I work a lot of weekends I didn't get a chance to talk to her yet.
