Serial Casting for toe walking???
My son will need this done on his right foot soon. Has anyone experienced this?

My DD walked on her toes probably 95% of the time. I was really aggressive early on and put her in bilateral hinged AFOs before she lost range of motion. She had some slight tightening of her heel cords, but nothing significant. She was an idiopathic toe walker/sensory kid so there wasn't an underlying orthopedic or neurological reason for her toe walking (like CP). Within a year she was walking typically and no longer a toe walker at that point she no longer need the orthotics. I'm guessing your DS has significant tightening and that's why the need to serial cast? That's a step before surgery. AFOs are not as aggressive as serial casting. PT also helped alot too.

Yes, my DD had this when she was little. She had both feet done. Had to wear them for a month. Then did PT after for about 6 weeks. That helped stretch her heel cords tremendously. She is 8 now, and does not walk completely flat footed though. She is a gymnast, and very active, so it doesn't seem to hinder her abilities in life.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, we were very aggressive with therapy also. We have been in PT since 3 months old. We have already been thru 3 pairs of AFO's. After the casting, this will be our fourth pair. I am hoping it helps. The left foot is in normal range now. The right foot still causing issues.
