anyone adopting from guatemala??
hi girls!
i've posted on here bfore that i can't have children becasue of a genetic condition i have, so my husband and i are looking to adopt when the time comes. right now, we're just reaseaching the different countries and programs... i always thought i wanted to adopt from asia, but i've been looking into guatemala, and that seems like a great program too... anybody with any experience??

One of my close friends adopted their baby boy from Guatemala. It worked out so well for them, they got their baby boy last year on mothers day. Do you have specific questions? I'd be happy to pass them on to her, if you do not get responses here. GOOD LUCK!

hi!
wow! thats great to hear it worked out well for them! how old was the baby when they got him? thats one thing that i've read that i like is that it seems like the babies come home when they're very young, which is good for bonding and everything.
also, what agency did they use? i live in NJ and i've been looking at the different agencies and its so confusing- LOL if they had a good experience, maybe they could recommend their agency.

Hey there,
You should go to www.holtintl.org/forums. There's a whole thread dedicated to Guatamala adoptions and I'm sure you'll get lots of responses to any question you might have. I know on this board we have a few adoptions from Korea, China and Ethiopia, but I don't think anyone has adopted from Guatamala. We can answer all of the other general international adoption questions though and serve as a great source of support to you otherwise though. Good Luck!

Alex came home at 5 months. I know at one point they switched agencies, once they did that, it seemed to go fairly smoothly.

I have a cousin on my dh's side that just adopted a little boy from guatlemala. I think it took about 15 months and the boy is about 6 months old. he is precious. Good luck.
