If she shares pictures either via social media or in email (drop box, etc), fine I think
To call it a virtual housewarming, in my opinion, I plus she is asking for gifts and yes I find that tacky.
They could mail cards that announce their new address and have pictures. Someone may send them something but IMHO, it shouldn't be called a housewarming.
We had a party when we moved and most people brought a bottle of wine, some of which was drank at the party. I wouldn't have expected anything else

Housewarming question
I think sharing photos or video on line is fine and a very nice thing to do. I think calling it a virtual house warming is kind of tacky in that it implies she is looking for gifts. Just because there is info about doing it online doesn't make it "right" or any less tacky IMHO.

I think she could send a photo moving announcement that has her new address and phone number with a picture of the family in front of their new home, but any virtual tours sound like a gift grab. In this case, if someone wants to mail her a gift card, they could, but requesting anything seems demanding gifts. On face book she could create an album of new house photos, but I would not throw a virtual party.
