Question about medicated iui
I just had my 5th unmedicated IUI (one ended in miscarriage) I'm thinking about doing a medicated iui next cycle.
Can someone explain difference between clomid vs injectibles?

Question about medicated iui
Clomid is a pill you take for 5 days and is usually tried before going to injectibles. There is typically only 1 or 2 mature follicles when you trigger. With injectibles and IUI you have to be very careful to only get a few mature follicles otherwise you may have to cancel. The injectibles are usually injected for 9-11 days.
If you have only done unmedicated, I would think you should try a clomid cycle first. Much easier on you and requires less monitoring.

Re: Question about medicated iui
the IUI's i did were with clomid and a trigger shot (as the only injectible);
I dont think I would have been comfortable with using follistim or those other meds doing an IUI.

Re: Question about medicated iui
Clomid is a pill you take for 5 days to stimulate a "better" or stronger ovulation. You may only have 1 follie from that, you could get 2 or 3. There are typically 3 doses (50, 100, 150) and you take the same dose all 5 days.
Injectables is more controlled since the RE will see you every other day, or every day and adjust your dosage as needed. Your goal is to still have 1 or 2, possibly 3 follies.
For me, I always only had 1 follie on Clomid. BFN both times. The second month I got a terrible migraine and decided to never take Clomid again. Third month I did injectables, had 3 follies and a BFP, my DS. We went straight to injectables for my second and I had 2 follies. BFP, which is my DD. For me, injectables was my "magic recipe."

Re: Question about medicated iui
If with clomid you only get 1 or2 follicles what makes it better then an unmedicated iui.
Why do the injectibles give you such a better shot?

Re: Question about medicated iui
I did clomid + IUI and I also did IVF. I never did injectables + IUI. But I can tell you this:
Clomid- you take for 5 days. I took it from days 3-7. It made me produce 2-3 follicles each time.
I personally never did injectables + IUI because I ovulate naturally and respond well to clomid. My RE doesn't think my eggs are an issue. But he did say some girls don't ovulate naturally and don't respond to clomid so for them, injectables are the next step.
I'd try clomid first. It requires way less monitoring and is wayyy cheaper than injectables.

Re: Question about medicated iui
I ovulate on my own. I never got pg on my own. Clomid never got be a BFP. Injectables did. Twice. For whatever reason, stimming in a more controlled fashion (with injectables) is what worked for me. I think it's always worth a short to try something new.

Re: Question about medicated iui
I ovulate on my own like clockwork too.
Im an early ovulater like day 10-11 the latest
im trying to determine the advantages of clomid vs an unmedicated cycle
I know injectibles are another "monster" in themselves

b/c my OB did them and never monitored me with ultrasounds. It was just..do clomid, trigger this day come in for IUI. If he would have suggested anything like follistim or the other meds that develop a lot of follicles i would have said no way. you dont want to risk mulitple follicles and do an IUI.

Re: Question about medicated iui
I think it varies person to person and people respond to diff things
Clomid did nothing for me. Femara was better but I had a response once we added injectables
I agree with trying/changing protocols and seeing what happens

After 5 unmedicated IUIs, I'd say that's not working for you. Time to try something else. I'd try Clomid for a better stim as a next step. It may help you get more or better follies, and it may help to increase your progesterone. It can't hurt to try it.
