If you have a teen
What age would you let your teen be home alone in your house with a friend for an hour or so.

Re: If you have a teen
Depends on the teen, and the friend. DS will be a teen in about 3 weeks and there are a few friends that he has that I would let them stay by themselves at 13.

Re: If you have a teen
At 13 I was out babysitting for other people's kids so my parents didn't have a problem with me having a friend or two over when they weren't home by that age. But every teen is different, I was pretty responsible so they didn't worry about leaving me alone at home.

Re: If you have a teen
It would have to depend on the kid who was coming over and if the other kids parents were ok with it. When my son was 11, he was at a friends house and when I picked him up, found they were at the house alone. The mom had gone grocery shopping. I was furious because I had no idea they were left alone. Needless to say, he hasn't been allowed back there since. He is almost 13 now and I still would not be comfortable with him being alone at someone elses house with just a friend there. Maybe when hes an older teen.
My son is responsible and I do have him watching his younger siblings occasionally, but have a friend over is a totally different story.

Re: If you have a teen
My son is 12 and he's been doing that all school year. Only with specific, pre approved friends though.

I say around 12, but it depends on the friend. Also, I would clear it with the friends mom because some of my sons friends are still not aloud to be alone at home.
Unrelated, but that was my 1000th post!!

Re: If you have a teen
Depends on the kids and their friend(s).
I haven't done it yet, but I'd have no qualms leaving my soon to be 10 yo daughter home alone with certain friends. My DD is so straight-laced and afraid of getting in trouble, that I have no worries with her.
My soon to be 6 yo...well, based on his personality and choice in wild friends...he'll be 35 before we let him hang out alone with friends.
Heck, to think our babysitter was only 13 when she started watching our oldest 3 kids. (She had the right personality and temperament. We had a neighbor who was my "mother's helper" for a while and she was also older than our sitter, but I wouldn't leave her alone with our kids.)
