Glass shower door "special coating"
We Just had our bathroom done and now it's time for shower doors. The woman at the place offered us the special coating - she said it's like rainex or something.
I remember people here saying to not get it
If you have it, do you like it ? If not, why?

Don't bother.
It's like car dealerships selling the undercoating.
Just go to the auto store and buy Rain-Ex spray and spray it on the doors. It wears away over time.

Normally I'd agree it's just an upsell, but this a friends fiancé and she is throwing it in for us no charge. But I'm afraid bc I've heard so many bad things. She's reassuring me it's the right move but I still said no. I still have time to decide but I'm still weary

Re: Glass shower door "special coating"
you can't use any ol cleaner when you coat the doors which would be fine if you clean your doors all the time.
You have to use spray away- in the aerosol can. Smells awesome but when you have a bathroom that you use all the time and you don't keep up with cleaning it every day it becomes kinda grimy and then cutting through the grime with spray away isn't easy.
We put that coating on our master bathroom doors and on our guest bathroom doors. Guest bath is totally fine but I kinda wish I didn't put it on upstairs

Re: Glass shower door "special coating"
The "special coating" wears away after a while. You can get the stuff to put it back on, but oh holy hell it smells god awful and you really need elbow grease to rub it in. Think "wax on - wax off" done twice. Once to rub it in, then again to rub it off. Repeat because two coats are recommended. Oh, and it has to dry completely between applications.
You cannot use any ammonia based cleaner - so that rules out Windex, Glass Plus. I personally can't stand the smell of Sprayaway, plus I don't like aerosols.
We do squeegee, but the water spots still appear, and so does a buildup of soap and shampoo.
DH cleans the bathroom, so he does the Sprayaway, but sometimes you just can't get the buildup off with that, especially on the bottom and in the edges, so I go in and use baking soda on a warm wet sponge.
My opinion, I HATE the special coating.
edited to add : this is my only bathroom.
