DOE Help
So I applied on the Teach NYC website a couple of months ago and was approved. I sent out a bunch of resumes. I received a reply asking for some personal information. One was my SS number, which I didn't feel comfortable sending in email, so I called the school to give it to the woman I had been messaging back and forth directly. She said because I had never worked for the DOE I had to be recommended, and that wouldn't be until September. I'm confused because I was already approved on the Teach NYC site. Can someone explain this process to me? Is there a way to expedite things? I'm stressing because as much as I want this and as much as I want to leave my job, I am a one-woman department. It would royally screw them if I just picked up and left immediately.
Thanks!

I think she means "nominated" not recommended. When I was hired, I was not a NYC employee, nor was I registered on the DOE portal. My principal verbally hired me, and then told me to fill out the NYC application online. I had to give her some info from there, she located my account, and then "nominated" me for the position. I got an e-mail from the DOE congratulating me on being nominated for the position at that school, along with instructions on what to do next. I think I had to go into Brooklyn somewhere and get my ID photo taken and stuff like that
ETA: This was all in July, not September. I have no idea what that lady was talking about when she said you have to wait until Sept? lol

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I haven't even had an interview with this school though. Hopefully this is a good sign. She definitely said September, so I don't know what that's about.

There are many ignorant payroll secretaries and administrators in the DOE. A few summers ago, a principal told me I needed a file number to be nominated, which was untrue. You are hired through your social. It's kind of weird that they wanted your social before they interviewed you. I think it might be a red flag this school might not be good.
Getting approved to be on the DOE New Teacher Finder simply means Principals can see your resume/application on there. It does not guarantee you a job. You know it's a official when your status shows you as placed at a school. Keep applying and on the off chance you don't have anything in Sept, you can reach back out to this school.
