At what point do you put the onus on your kid...?
My daughter is in 4th grade and wants to apply to a special art program which only has 15 spots. I had a questions about one of the requirements (a two part question actually). And I'm wondering if at this point I should expect DD to ask the teacher when she sees her, or if I should send an email.
She only has this class once a week and I know she might forget. So should I reach out to the teacher (and part of why I am hesitant is that I don't want to come across as a hovering mom, especially since admission is competitive) or make DD deal with the consequences if she forgets?

I would email the teacher. Specials are short, once a week, and they try to fit a lot in in that time period. I wouldn't be surprised if your daughter would forget. I know mine probably would. In 4th grade all clubs come home for a parent approval and signature, so I don't think it's "hovering" at all.

I'd let your daughter ask.
It shows her OWN interest and initiative, and may set her apart in a competitive environment. If it's important to her, she won't forget.

Or send a note or do classdojo or whatever (my DS' teachers do not email) but have your daughter ask as well.
But I would have facilitate the asking, if that makes sense

Thanks for the replies! She has this teacher tomorrow so I told her to ask her then. If it gets really busy and she's not able to do it, I'll send an email. She doesn't use any kind of app that I know of.

Great question. Depends on childs age personality and what the issue is.
In your case i would ask teacher.

If the teacher picks the students for the spots I would def have the kid ask. That would show a real interest.
