If your kid is too big for a 5 point harnass.....
does it really matter which booster seat you use? We have a Britax Marathon. DS is too tall for it now, his shoulders are higher than the openings for the straps. So I looked at the Graco Nautilus, tried it at BRU, sat him in it and again, he is too tall for the straps. So I am thinking - do I really need to shell out $$$ for a booster seat, or will the $50 high backed booster be fine. He just needs something that will position the seatbelt correctly, right?

A high back booster is fine! The only reason people buy the more expensive ones, is for the 5 point harness option, then they convert. Obviously if your child is too big for the 5 point harness, there is no sense in spending the money on a seat that features that.
