Any tips for spelling words?
Hi all! Does anyone have any tried and true tips for reviewing spelling words that makes it fun and helps them learn?
I tried some pinterest ideas last year and they only worked for a short period of time. Scrabble tiles being the most successful...yet also a PITA. 
It is only week 2 for spelling words and it is a fight already.

Spellingtime.com I heard is good. I never used it, but I think you can load your words onto the site, and then play games with them, etc.

Star fall is a good website
Bubble letters
Lay rice or shaving cream inside of a baking pan and use fingers to spell words
Letter frequency chart
Rainbow color words
Train words -as in draw a train and put the words into boxes for the train to carry

How old? Spellingcity.com is great.
magnet letters
write words on index cards, cut apart and build the words
write in fun supplies (colorful markers, cool pens, gel pens, etc)
Use alphabits cereal or the cheeze it scrabble crackers

my daughters teacher has them do
triangle words
rainbow word
computer fun (typing them in different fonts and colors)
abc order
sentences
I have her do gross motor activities with words she has more difficulty remembering how to spell
jumping jacks
marching
clapping
etc...

I use a white board with my son. We struggled before it. Its so easy now. I write his words, he copies them a few times, them we erase and I test him. He loves it. He will erase them and say again! Good luck. He is 7.

DS has this option as one of his spelling activities and he writes each word one color starting with red and then the next would be orange etc.
Whats working for DS is me writing the letters separately to each word out on index cards, laying them out on a table and having him pick up the cards he needs to spell the word.

My son is in the 2nd grade.
I think I finally found out what works for him!
I wanted to share in case it helps anyone else out.
I noticed he loved Raz Kidz and XtraMath which his class uses. It made reading and practicing math facts a breeze so I went on a mission to find a user friendly spelling app. There are TONS out there and we tried several. Most had these computerized voices which made it very difficult to understand exactly what word they were saying. Until I found "Squeebles" It is $3.99 and worth EVERY penny! It was a one time fee - most had a monthly membership. I'm able to upload his words and use my voice to say the words. You earn Squeebles and there are games. It has not only made studying his spelling words a breeze, but it has helped him get a 100 and 95 on his recent spelling test!
