Applying through online job portals

Does anyone actually get hired through applying to jobs online?

I have only recently started looking, so I haven't applied to too many places, but applying online is so depressing. I feel like this info just goes into the abyss. My friend has been looking for a long time & nothing ever comes from these on line jobs.

Has anyone had any success this way?

I think the portals are very tough. My company had a job posted for 2 weeks and received over 700 applicants, 99% were way overqualified-PhDs, etc. The person we ended up hiring was a recommendation from someone who worked in another dept.

I think a referral is always ideal. Even if you can connect through LinkedIn with someone that works there and try to have them pass along your resume.

Applying through online job portals

I have with all my jobs and thank goodness because I know no one. They sometimes look for "key words" and I always make sure they are in my resume.
