Trying to decide this myself.
Now that I'm home, summer camp is less of a requirement & I may put the two older (5&6) in for a short while (2-3 weeks) and have mini trips with the baby the rest of the time.

DS will be 6 in May, but he will be doing 4 weeks of camp, M-Th 9-12. We plan to do the town pool on Fridays, we are going away the 1st week of August.

Re: what are your 5yo's doing this summer?

I'm debating putting my older son in the Summer Recreation Program again this summer. Last year was his first time, since you need to be entering Kindergarten to qualify.

It was the cheapest camp and the only thing we could afford and I didn't want him sitting home with the sitter all day, every day, so it got him out and about.

BUT it was a HOT summer and this camp does not have AC or buildings, it's completely outside at Wantagh Park. The kids are responsible for reapplying their sunblock. He got quite a few bad burns and once had heat exhaustion that kept him home for a few days. It was scary. From then on, if it was near 90 or higher he didn't go. Even if he skipped a bunch of days, or I picked him up at lunch when the temp was rising, we got our $750 out of it. He really enjoyed going to the spray pool. But he had some trouble changing himself out of his wet suit into dry clothes in a timely manner which led to tears a few days. I spoke with the counselors and they kept an eye on him after that.

I still need a sitter for my younger son so we are paying double but since this camp was so cheap we went for it. I did look at camps and sending both kids but it's not in the budget. I'd rather spend some of that money on a nice vacation for the entire family.

Thank you all for sharing! Has anyone heard anything about Pierce Country day school, growing tree in roslyn, buckley or harbor daycare? they all range from ok to pricey but i'm really looking for a place where the teachers are really hands on with helping kids interact socially if he's going to go to camp!

My older 2 will be going to summer camp and my toddler will hang with me. They love camp and look foward to it all year!

If you are near East Meadow, there is a Great program called CAPE. It's for July only inside school 9-12pm You can pick 3 different activies.

Wow! This program sounds great! Thanks for sharing. I'm definitely going to look into this for my son. He's really taken an interest in drawing lately. He might love this.

Quick question: how much is it?

I am looking into camps but I will not send him to a camp that does bus trips, that is my requirement bc I am just not comfortable with that yet (he will be entering 1st next yr) I have a couple options I am considering.

It varies and I don't think that the summer brochure is out yet, but you can look at the prices for the spring 2017 classes: http://www.eastmeadow.k12.ny.us/em_cape/em_cape

Old Westbury Summer Camp is wonderful, our 5 year old will be returning for his 2nd year. The hours and days are flexible, we find that 3 full days are more than enough for him and he enjoys just relaxing at home the days he does not have camp.

There are no field trips until the children are MUCH older which I LOVE.
