What are your kids doing over the summer?
What are you kids doing over the summer? I am looking for a day camp program that isnt $$. DS needs the structure and loves the socialization (he is an only child).
We are considering a few options. Our district offers a summer rec program which is 1/2 days and very reasonable. I also heard Nassau County is starting a new program doing summer rec at the parks. What are your plans?

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
Kev will be doing the summer rec program in Bellmore (thru JCC but in the school) since he is eligible since he starts K in Sept. It is 5 days and 9am-2pm for 6 weeks but we will only do 5). More camp time than I wanted to send him but the price is half of what I paid for 3 days, 4 hours last year at Wee Friends. I feel it will be a great way for him to meet boys that will be in his school next year and also 4 other boys from his preschool class will be doing the program as well. I heard it is great and the kids love it. Since it is reasonable - if I want to do something else and not send him - I won't feel bad.
My youngest is turning 3 the end of July and hasn't done any preschool yet but I decided to put him in Merrick Community camp this summer- only 2 days for 3 hours. I think he is going to love...I hope....ever since we visited he keeps asking to go to camp.

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
DD goes to one of the "camps r us" locations for 8 weeks. It's $1800 for full time (8:40 am - 5pm) from June 26-August 20. They have shorter sessions too (4 & 6 weeks I think) The program starts at 3 years old and goes all the way through 13 & then they can become a counselor in training & counselor.
This is her 4th year there. She likes the program, and I feel like I am getting more then my money's worth. They go swimming and bowling 2x a week, and have trips throughout the summer that are NOT included in tuition - but they usually don't run more then $30 or so for the trip & transportation.

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
Rob's a SAHD for now - so the plan is to have him keep them. We found a few town programs (few hours a day) that we will sign them up for - I think he was looking at cooking and basketball.
If Rob goes back to work, we'll sign them up for Chatterbox Day Camp. It's a fantastic program that they used before Rob got laid off.

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
I will be with the kids over the summer... I previously had them in half day camps in prior summer's, but we have a lot going on this summer with my parents moving, my sister coming home for the summer, my nieces and nephews staying for 2 weeks and my sister's wedding, so I hope to get in some things for them to do. They take swimming lessons at the local pool and I might do some day trips with them.

I'm so glad you posted about Chatterbox! I live down the block from the school and I was considering putting Reilly in their pre-school. It's nice to know that their camp program is great! Thanks!

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
My kids will be going to Chatterbox Camp :) They love going, have a great time and beg to go back. :)
All 3 of my kids have gone there for preschool and my youngest started at 22 months and is graduating from Pre-K there in early June. This will be their 4th year of camp there too!
I have nothing but praise for them, I love the school, I love how everyone working there knows my kids on sight and knows me on sight (and they took a bus so they didn't see me at dropoff/pickup). Very loving/caring place!!

The camp is great, their daycare is great and their pre-k is great. Noah went to all 3 and Robbie went to camp there. They have an amazing staff - from the director (Miss Lindsay) all the way to the student counselors during the summer. They really love their kids and give them a wonderful experience all around. I can't say enough good things about them!
Camp? Sheesh - karate, dancing, swimming, pony rides.. the kids are given a TON of things to do!

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
She's doing two full days a week at a YMCA program locally, then I'm thinking of signing her up for dance. I want to keep her busy, but not overly busy. I'll have a new baby at home, so I wanted something that was for her and not about the baby, kwim?

DS1 (7) will be doing a combo baseball camp/rec center camp in the mornings and DS2 (4) will do a camp through the school district for incoming kindergartners. Baby girl will just hang out with me.

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
DD (4.5) will be going to camp at her pre-school. DS 17 will be getting ready for college and better have more hours at his job or another job, don't want his @ss lounging on my couch all day

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
DD will be in dance camp 1 day a week for 2 1/2 hours.
DD and DS will be doing gymnastics for an hour once a week (different classes, same time frame) wooohooo
DD will continue with soccertots and DS will continue with lil sluggers once a week.
So that's 3 out of 5 days with something to do.
We also signed up through AMF for the kids bowl free for the summer. So I plan on taking them to do that, plus they like going to the driving range and swimming of course!

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
They will be at a sitter 2x a week, one day with my mil and the other 2 with my parents. I was thinking about camp but they tend to do so much with my parents that I would rather save the money for now. They also love going to the sitter and she keeps them busy.

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
They will be at the beach, park, zoos, in the backyard, doing the relaxed summer thing. My oldest is going into 2nd grade, and my middle one is starting K, so I am selfishly keeping them to myself this summer

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
DS (5) is doing the summer recreation program at Theodore Roosevelt Park (offered through the Town of Oyster Bay). It is $125 and runs from Jul 6th to Aug 13th from 9:15 to 3:00 M-F (with 1 hour off for lunch). There are a few weeks where I might send him to NYIT if they are still open.
DD (2) might do a dance camp, otherwise nothing until nursery school in the fall.

Re: What are your kids doing over the summer?
We wanted to put him into camp but we couldn't afford it.
So he will be at the park, the pool in at our community center, fishing with dad and whatever else we can do. I am due at the end of June and DH can't take vacation till end of July. So my poor boy will be stuck home or local for a while till I get myself back into a routine. It's been 7 years since I had a infant lol. I am sad for DS that he won't be able to do as much as the other kids but I told him he can have as many play dates as he can get to make up for it.

My DS will be going to LuHi for the summer..he cannot wait for camp to start. The camp provides transportation and a hot lunch, which is great for working parents.
