Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I went on my first cruise in September to the Mediterranean. It was great!!
We did not get sea sick at all (and DH was scared he would). The room we had was not claustrophobic at all. We had the bed, then a sitting area and bathroom. We also had a balcony which makes a HUGE difference, so try to get one.

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I went on a short one, I got sea sick. Sea Bands didn't work, but Dramamine did. Cruising just isn't my style, and I doubt I will do it again.
ETA: We had a tiny inside cabin with no windows, and I didn't feel claustrophobic at all. I actually found that looking outside made it worse.
I seem to be in the minority not liking cruises though.

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
my doctor writes a prescription for me. you take it about 2 hours before you set sail and it works, and then you can take as needed. i have horrible motion sickness, and taking this on both the cruises i was on helped a lot.
ETA: its called Meclizine

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
We just went on a cruise in September and can't WAIT to go on another one.
1. I did get seasick but once I took the seasick pills, I was fine. We went in Hurricane season though and went through the after effects of Hurricane Florence so it was rough seas.
2.The rooms are not small. The rooms over looking the Promenade are very nice. We met a couple and saw their room. We had a oceanview room and it was very nice. There were inside cabins across from us and they were the same size as ours but no window.
Which cruise are you going on?

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
first of all february is a great time to go... less chance of storms that time of the year therefore less chance of motion sickness... I have been on 3 cruises and will only go during feb/march for that reason (dh gets seasick easily and never has)
if u can, try to get a balcony... well worth the extra $ and really opens the room up.

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
Definitely go! I went on one in July and had a fabulous time. I did get a little queazy but I took the sea sickness medicaiton they had on board (it was called sea calm) and I felt fine after taking it. The rooms aren't huge but there are so many other places you can hang out in besides your staterroom. What cruise line are you thinking about taking?

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I loved the cruise - I didn't get seasick or feel claustraphobic at all... but then again, save sleeping and showering, we were rarely in our rooms. Although, i do hear disney rooms are bigger than most cruise ship rooms...

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I went on a cruise for my honeymoon. My advice to you? Choose a cabin with a balcony, and find a room closer to the middle of the ship. On our honeymoon, we had a room at the tail-end of the ship, and we felt every single little thing. AND we had a balcony.
Sometimes though, you never know. What may cause seasickness for one, may not be a problem at all for another.
Have fun deciding!!!
(We loved it so much - despite the seasickness - that we booked another RC cruise for April!!!)

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I have been on several..I have never felt claustrophobic in the cabins even though they are small, and to be honest not much time is spent in the cabin (there are always things to do)..
as for seasickness..I was never seasick when I was younger but since have become seasick several times..the first time the cabin steward gave me meclizine and it took care of it..I also had the patch you put behind your ear and that worked great too...
If you decide to go have a great time..cruising is a favorite vacation of mine!!!

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
How rough/rocking the ship will be depends on where you are sailing - i.e. leaving from FLL is generally rougher than leaving from San Juan (of course that depends on the weather as well).
My mother gets motion sickness and they have taken over 25 cruises. If you plan to take any sort of sea sickness meds you need to take them before you get sick or they don't work. If you have problems with that - just take one (or get the bands) about 30 mins before you leave port.
You don't have to have a balcony cabin - they are nice but not necessary. Most of the time you don't spend any time in your room. We usually get a balcony room - but we make an effort to spend more time in the room (on the balcony) since we have it. Otherwise it is mostly for sleeping and changing.
Rule of thumb get a lower floor room and one as close to the middle of the boat. This will be the area that will have the least motion. Try to stay away from the very front or the very back you will feel more motion there, as well as on the higher decks.
Oh and I have never felt claustrophobic in a cruise room. You will be fine - the only thing that does tend to be small are the bathrooms/showers - you will hear jokes about don't drop the soap.
Check out
Hope that helps.cruisecritic posting board Every cruiseline has their own sections and the people there can answer any question you might have and you can find photos, info on your particular ship etc

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I have been on 5 cruises and going on another in february. I take ginger pills, they are natural and have no side effects. They work great. Make sure if u are on other medications if it is okay for you to take them with the pharmacist and/ or doctor. I also have the RX for seasickness and only had to use it once in addition to the ginger pills. But we were on the tail end of a tropical storm. HTH I love cruising!
ETA We usually get a balcony- so I do not feel claustrophobic.

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I was just on my first cruise in July...
I never got seasick but for the first 24 hours I definitely felt lightheaded and drugged even with the sea bands.
On the way home, we hit rough water and I made sure to take dramamine and wear the sea bands and I was okay, but I never felt like I could walk straight!
We had a room with a window and it wasn't that small...I usually don't like small places but I never felt claustrophobic. You really don't spend that much time in the rooms.

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I have been on 3 of them & we are planning another for our 1 year anniversary! Never got sea sick & always carry dramaine just in case. We have hit some very bad seas on our HM (off the coast of Puerto Rico) but it didn't effect us.
I didn't not feel stuck in my room in the least bit! Then again, we have never had an inside cabin! I don't think I could last with no windows to the outside world. On our HM, we had a balcony & I would never have anything less then that! It gives you the option to go outside & sit on the balcony while travelling at sea & also gives you more room to manuever!
Like someone said, Feb is a great time to go. There is less chance of bad weather & rough seas.
For us, it is the only vacation that truly interests anymore! Where else can you pay for a flat rate (not including drinks & excursions) & have all the food you can want, activities that you want to do & see at least 4 islands in a week!!!!

Re: anyone been on a cruise?
I was on one cruise for my honeymoon. We took a Princess cruise through the Panama Canal (it was amazing!). We had a Jr. Suite, so the room was plenty big (the bathroom was just as big as my bathroom at home!). We had a balcony as well. And the room was center ship (very important).
I'm going on another cruise next month with Royal Carribean. My room is center ship but we have an oceanview (a window -- no balcony) which I'm a little concerned about. The rooms look a decent size, though.
I didn't get sea sick at all, and I have a tendency of getting sea sick on much smaller boats.
I hope you plan to go. They are a great way to visit a lot of places in a short period of time. They are a lot of fun with free shows and free meals. Bring lots of cash if you plan to drink alcohol. A friend just told me that she snuck alcohol onto the ship, which to me is a great idea and I may just take the tip!! If you go, enjoy!!
