Another Cruise Question.... Has anyone booked a "guaranteed room"
They have rooms where you are "guaranteed" an ocean front or "guaranteed" balcony but you don't get your room assignment till you get there. You could get a GREAT room OR UPGRADED or you could get an oceanview room WITH a life boat in front of it. BUT the price is cheaper.
Oceanview cabin with private balcony $929.00
Balcony cabin guarantee $829.00

Re: Another Cruise Question.... Has anyone booked a "guaranteed room"
Some guarantees may not have upgrades.
Cruise lines generally close the booking process anywhere from 24 - 72 hours prior to sailing allowing them to review their inventory. If a room is able to be upgraded they may do it but it's up to the cruise lines descetion. Otherwise it's a guarantee that you will have an ocean view room but you dont know where it will be. Booking a guaranteed cabin guarantees you a cabin within that cabin class: Suite, balcony, oceanview, or inside. You will receive your cabin assignment when you check in for your cruise, and your cabin may be located on any deck of the ship. I would suggest to do cabin assignment. You can pick the cabin you want and where on the ship. If you've never cruises before you could be in a cabin with an obstructed view, you could be at the bottom of the ship near the engine and will hear it all night, you could be in the front where it's the rockyest. If you do assignment you pick the cabin and wouldnt have to worry about where you'll be.

Re: Another Cruise Question.... Has anyone booked a "guaranteed room"
Last summer we booked a guaranteed ocean view room with an obstructed view - of a lifeboat I assumed. I was very nervous that I would be so disappointed with the room. It turned out to be great. The lifeboat was to our left and to our right but straight ahead was a perfect view and our room was so much cheaper than others with the same view. Our neighbors had the complete obstruction and I would have HATED that.

We usually book guarantee cabins too, you never know when the "upgrade fairy" will bring you good news.
We've been upgraded three times out of five cruises we took.
Our very first cruise, we got upgraded to from an oceanview room (no balcony) to a suite! Man, we were spoiled the first time! Nothing has ever compared to that!
Lots of luck! Happy cruising!

We always book guarantee balcony cabins. We were upgraded once to 2 decks up from our original booking deck. We never had the obstructed view but I made sure to triple check before booking that our guarantee balcony cabin was not on the deck with the obstructed views.

Re: Another Cruise Question.... Has anyone booked a "guaranteed room"
We just booked a guaranteed balcony room with NCL. We studied the ship layout and found that they only had 4 staterooms that were the catagory we booked and none of them appeared to have an obstructed view.
ETA: We recived our cruise documents and we recived a 2 floor upgrade.

Re: Another Cruise Question.... Has anyone booked a "guaranteed room"
i worry too much about location. My first cruise was front of the boat and I got crazy sick. I like being in the middle. Also, I hate being far from stairs/elevator. What a PITA if you want something from your room. have fun!

Re: Another Cruise Question.... Has anyone booked a "guaranteed room"
We just did a guaranteed room in June and it worked out great. We didn't get an upgrade, but our balcony cabin was right in the middle of the ship.

Re: Another Cruise Question.... Has anyone booked a "guaranteed room"
We have booked a guarentee a few times. Basically the agent told us to book the type of room you would be satisfied with and hope it imrpoves. We have been moved up several floors both times we booked that way. The type of room usually stays the same though.
