Re: Glucose test
I was told to have a high protein/low carb meal 2 hours prior (my test was at 3pm). I had 2 eggs with spinach & cheese. I'm assuming I passed because the test was 2 weeks ago and I was told they only call when you fail. I'll find out on Wednesday for sure though.

Glucose test
Why is there such large variation between doctors' instructions for this test. I just took mine on Friday. My doctor said fast 4 hours before, so I scheduled it for the morning. Then looking online I saw people who were told not to fast, to fast 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours before. Some people said they were told not to fast but to make sure what you ate wouldn't cause a blood sugar spike, and that eating something before was better than eating nothing. I felt so confused so I had a single piece of whole wheat toast about 2.5 hours before. If I fail, I'll blame myself for getting confused and freaked out and eating. Last time I ate nothing before and I failed, but passed the 3 hour. I just don't want to take the 3 hour test again.

Re: Glucose test
I wasn't told to fast at all for 1 hour. I ate a high protein breakfast before my test.

Re: Glucose test
I ate normally before all 3 of my glucose tests. Passed them every time. The point is to eat normally and see how your body processes sugar.

Re: Glucose test
My doctor's instructions were different than the lab's with previous pregnancies so I'd check with the lab.

Re: Glucose test
What I find disturbing is how different doctors give different answers on this and how the lab instructions can vary from the doctors'. Can't they get their act together on whether or not you need to fast for this test? It's kind of disturbing that nobody seems to know what the proper way to take the test is for the most accurate results

Re: Glucose test
I did not have to fast and I was told to eat a regular breakfast but no food, only water after drinking the stuff. I drank it on the way in to the appointment. They had me wait like 15/20 minutes, tested me, and sent me on my way. I passed.
ETA: The bottle did say to fast from the night before but my doctor said to ignore it.

Funny you say you were told you could drink water after drinking the stuff. I drank the drink at the lab and afterwards took a sip from a bottle of water I had brought because the drink was so sweet and nasty and I just wanted to get the taste out of my mouth. I got screamed at in front of an entire waiting room by some nasty b!tch behind the desk that I am NOT ALLOWED TO DRINK ANY WATER and that it could skew the test and she might have to cancel the test on me. I was furious. I said, "it was a SIP! I doubt it will affect anything, and if you are going to cancel the test over me taking a SIP of water, you better get my doctor on the phone ASAP because I need to hear that from HIM, not you." She backed off after that. But everyone turned and stared. It was mortifying. She acted as if I whipped out a pastry from my purse and started eating it! When I got back for the blood draw I asked the tech who was taking my blood about it and she just rolled her eyes and said- a sip of water wouldn't affect anything and that that woman was pretty much known as a major b!tch and to ignore her.

So weird! My doctor was pretty chill about most stuff. I'm not even sure they waited long enough after I finished the drink before testing me. She told me nothing besides water, but I didn't drink anything anyway. It's funny, I didn't find the drink so bad! I thought it tasted like those quarter drinks from when I was a kid!
