Failed the 3 hr... officially have GD
My fasting number was good, but failed the first and second hours. So... GD it is. But I met w the nutritionist today, and bc my fasting number was good, I will most likely be able to control it w diet. I do have to test 4x a day which stinks though.
And it doesn't actually sound like I will have to change what I eat basically at all, but rather just be more cognizant of portion sizes. I made my first GD dinner tonight and didn't feel deprived at all, and my testing number was perfect.
If anyone has any tips for me, let me know!

Failed the 3 hr... officially have GD
I had it with my last pregnancy and it wasn't bad at all. I too was able to control simply with diet. After meeting with the nutritionist I learned a lot and with a little meal planning it was totally manageable. I didn't feel deprived....it was actually the opposite I felt good because I was eating well. And there were times when I'd have a few bites of cake at a party, or a small bowl of ice cream. I found a lot of great recipes, there are some good ones on the American diabetes Association website.

I was just diagnosed too. Like you, my fasting number was fine, but I failed my second and third hours. I meet with the nutritionist next week.
The diet/exercise part doesn't seem too bad based on my online research, but I'm a little disappointed to have the extra stress of worrying about what to eat and extra doctor's appointments for these last two months.

THIS. The extra doctor's appointments was, for me, the most inconvenient part of it all. If you ladies had a passing fasting # you should be fine controlling with diet. Best of luck!

Re: Failed the 3 hr... officially have GD
With DS2, I failed one of the blood draws by a few points and was diagnosed with glucose intolerance. It's treated the same as GD, but never developed into GD. The biggest change I had to make was my breakfast. I couldn't have any type of fruit or fruit flavored Greek yogurt for breakfast because my numbers would get too high, but they were totally fine for a morning snack. I was on the go a lot so low carb wraps with peanut butter were totally fine. I also had that for an evening snack along with a cheese stick. I could have a decent amount of carbs as long as I also had protein to balance it out. I even had ice cream or frozen yogurt sometimes, usually in the afternoon more than the evening. As long as I walked a bit shortly after that, my blood sugar was well within normal range.
It was an adjustment, especially the testing, but it really isn't that bad. My doctor also said she didn't expect my numbers to be perfect every single time and to not stress if there was an occasional reading outside of the normal range (wanted 90% in range). Good luck! It may be trial and error at first, but it sounds like you have a good start.

Are there extra drs appts beyond the initial consults? I met with the nut yesterday and am meeting w him again next week, but then likely won't have to meet w him again unless I want to/am having issues. I have an appt with an endocrinologist in a couple weeks, but I was told that was just so I was in the system in case I end up needing insulin.

I'm in CT and every practice is different, but I had to fax my results into the place and then meet with someone monthly to go over the numbers, get a weight check and at 1 or maybe 2 of the appointments, get my A1C level checked. I hated going there and the place made me feel guilty if I had a reading even slightly above the normal range. My OB was great about it, was happy with my numbers and offered to do the monitoring at the end. I'm dreading the possibility of having to go back there this time around since the older you are, the greater the chances of having blood sugar issues especially with a history in previous pregnancies.
ETA: This was 5 years ago so I can't remember whether it was once per week or every other week that my OB had me go for a non-stress test and sono starting at 32 weeks. My first trimester screening and quad screening results indicated a possible growth issue so I'm not sure whether the NSTs were related to that and/or the glucose issues. I also had sonos at MFM every 4 weeks to monitor the growth. Any possible growth issues were balanced out by the glucose intolerance and DS2 was under 8 lbs at almost 39 weeks.

I'm sure its different for everyone but I had to meet with my endo ONCE A WEEK which was horrific. Eventually she let me drop down to every other week once she saw my numbers were good. I had to get an ultrasound every week starting at 30 weeks I think followed by a non-stress test. So I basically went to at least one doctor's appointment a week for the last 10 weeks of my pregnancy. It wassssss annoying.

Failed the 3 hr... officially have GD
My OBGYN said at 32 weeks I have to go in twice a week to monitor the baby. I think it's for non-stress tests and ultrasounds. I have my first appoint with my OBGYN since my diagnosis tomorrow, so I'm hoping to have more information about what to expect then.

Re: Failed the 3 hr... officially have GD
I just failed my one hour by 1 point! I now have to take the 3 hour and I am dreading that more then the actual diagnoses!! I had GD with my twin pregnancy and it is really not that bad, you start to learn how to really eat healthy too.

Failed the 3 hr... officially have GD
I feel like I am being forced to eat less healthy... I had my follow up visit with the nutritionist and he told me I am not eating *enough* carbs - I should be eating 8-10, but I'm usually eating only around 4 or maybe 5, because when I eat more than that over the course of my meals my BG is too high and I am not hungry for snacks during the day. It's very frustrating!

Re: Failed the 3 hr... officially have GD
GD is so confusing!!!! I wasn't officially diagnosed with it, but after failing the 1 hour and having to monitor my blood sugars for a week, the head doctor at my practice said she wasn't happy with my nighttime numbers, so I'm having to follow a GD controlled diet with testing 4x daily for the remainder of my pregnancy (even though my numbers were all very low and under the 95/120 mark with the exception of the 2 nights I had pizza for dinner ). It was this, or taking medication which I refused.
I've found a lot of helpful advice and tips on the GD Facebook group- I've basically been copying what other members eat for snacks/meals and my numbers have all been within range. I definitely recommend checking that group out.
And just remember, it's only for a few more weeks (that's what I keep telling myself every time I crave some sweets lol)

Failed the 3 hr... officially have GD
Has anyone had issues with completely different readings from different monitors? My diabetes educator gave me a monitor with 10 test strips (Accu Chek Nano). Then when I called my insurance to see what brand is covered, I found out that I couldn't just pick up monitor supplies from the pharmacy, instead they order them by mail through a specific pharmacy. Since it would take 3-5 days to get the supplies, the pharamacy suggested that I could purchase an inexpensive monitor at Walmart called Relion to take readings until then. I went and bought that yesterday, and spent about $50 for the monitor, test strips, and lancets.
All my readings with the accu chek monitor from the diabetes educator have been good. I had one that was a little high, but still in range after I ate a carb heavy breakfast, but it wasn't surprising.
Last night, I took my first reading with the Walmart monitor, and it was high even though I'd eaten a healthy well balanced dinner. It was 128 two hours after dinner. Before, all my readings were in the 80s or 90s two hours after. I had one strip left from the diabetes educator, so I checked with that too, and that told me 90.
This morning when I took my fasting number with the Walmart monitor it was 101, which is high. Yesterday my fasting was 83, and also, I know my fasting number was fine for my 3 hours test, so I'm suspicious.
I've read online that blood glucose monitors only have to be within a 20% range of accuracy, but 20% can be a huge difference.
I'm going to talk to my obgyn tomorrow, but has anyone had experience with something similar? Should I just go out and by test strips for the monitor from my diabetes educator gave me ($100 for 50 strips)? Or maybe just wait for the monitor from my health insurance company?
I felt like I was doing really good with this monitor and now I feel like I'm failing. It's really confusing.
