** mango help needed, need tricks on cutting

I just stared buying mango to add to smoothies

a co-worked told they had no pit, but they do.

I feel like I'm losing most of my fruit due to the pit.

I try twisting the fruit after I cut in half the way I would for an avocado, not working

Any tricks to cutting this fruit, TIA

Use a sharp slim knife and follow the pit, cutting slowly.
I use my boning knife because it has the thinnest blade.

There's always frozen mango if you are making smoothies.

The mango pit is long and fairly thin.

So what I do is I skin it first. Then I slice it longways as close to the middle as possible for a clean, smooth slice. If it doesnt go; that means the pit is in the way. Keep trying until you get it and most of the fruit is sliced off.
You will most likely not ever see a clean pit. It's very hard to do.

And mango is very stringy; so if you eat it, you will need a toothpick for the hairy teeth. Chat Icon

For a smoothie, I'd just buy the frozen. You can also buy the pre-cut in the supermarket. To me, the time-cost of cutting a mango isn't worth it. I just buy the pre-cut. It's a bit more expensive, but I hate cutting mangoes!

If you are only using it for a smoothie, I agree to use frozen. If I make smoothies I almost always just use frozen fruit; then you don't have to worry if it's ripe or anything. TJs has excellent frozen fruit.
