Island Trees SD
My sister is thinking about moving to the Island Trees school district. Does anyone have any first hand information about the district? I know great schools is not a reliable source. We went through Levittown SD and know nothing about Island Trees.

Re: Island Trees SD
I have real estate information, having sold houses there.
It's a small district, pulling in from Levittown, Bethpage, and Seaford.
The elementary schools are on the Princeton Plan, meaning everyone in the district goes to one elementary school for the younger grades, and a different school for the older grades. So the elementary schools are not split by neighborhood, but by grade level. There's one middle school and one high school (one in front of the other).
Island Trees, just from my own personal observation, seems to have strong academic programs, especially for science and math. They also seem to have some competitive sports teams.
School taxes tend to be very low (relative to other surrounding areas), largely due to the commercial industry on Hempstead Tpke.

Re: Island Trees SD
I live in Island Trees SD. My kids aren't in elementary school yet, my oldest is going into Pre-K now. But I can speak for the community - I have met the nicest, friendliest people here. There are a LOT of young families with kids who have moved into the neighborhood in recent years among the people we've met. My neighbors are all so nice, we always meet and chat with people we meet with kids at the park. All the parents I've spoken to who have older kids in the district say they are very happy with the schools. The Island Trees library is small but is being renovated soon, and they are expanding some of their programs - the children's programs are great and all free. We've been here a little over 3 years now and are happy here. From what I've seen from postings in the moms groups on Facebook, the district seems pretty responsive to parent concerns as well, which is important to me.

Thanks! They didn't get the house. They currently live in Levittown in the Levittown SD and would have only been moving like 1/4 mile away from their current house. You might actually live near her as she is very close to a park and there are a lot of young families around. She is literally on the Levittown/IT border.

Re: Island Trees SD
I think it's a good district. They offer a lot of great programs that higher rated districts do not. At the high school, they offer a class that helps students with college applications process. They have many inexpensive summer camps in art, steam and sports.

Island Trees SD
We moved to Island Trees in March, and I love it. My kids are only 3, but my neighbors are amazing. Lots of young kids on the block. We love it here!

Re: Island Trees SD
I graduated from Island Trees, my parents still live in the district howerver I do not only because I didn't find a house in the price range I wanted to stick with.
I liked it when I went to school. Its a small school district which i didn't realize is not that common. I am pretty sure my graduating class had less than 150 people in it. I basically knew who everyone was in my grade.
I think they had pretty good class options when I went to school example I was able to take programming and since its been 17 years since I graduated I am sure there a ton more options now.
I also have friends that stood in the district and know they are all still pleased by the school.
