Open Market closed and a question
Open Market closed yesterday. I still have a list here of schools that had vacancies posted as of yesterday and am emailing those principals directly.
(Currently in the Bronx and have decided to look closer to home).
Anyway, I know that if you transfer while the open market is still active, you do not need a "release" from your principal, but that afterwards, you do.
So lets say I get an offer now that its closed... what happens if my principal won't release me?

Re: Open Market closed and a question
UGH! They can do that????? That's terrible! I cannot imagine the school year going smoothly after something like that.
Good to know... I wish I had started looking sooner

Open Market closed and a question
I wouldn't bother looking now because of the awkwardness. But look at the bright side, next year you'll have 2 years under your belt in the DOE and be way more marketable. Just so you know while most people think hiring mostly takes place in May or June I found that so many jobs opened up in July or principals waited until school to be over to really start interviewing. I also found many principals did hold after school interviews but demos obviously during the school day in June.
Just some notes to keep in mind when you look for next year.

Re: Open Market closed and a question
That happened to me. I was offered a job the day open market closed and they didn't put it through Galaxy fast enough. The principal of the new school fought to have me transferred but my principal refused to let me go. We even tried to involve the union but it was up to him and he said flat out refused to consider it. I called him crying and begging explaining all my reasons ie: huge difference in commute...talking HOURS, 2 kids, medical issues etc. He refused. So I had to stay there for another year and he made my life a living hell because I wanted to leave. Needless to say I jumped ship as soon as open market was open the following year and had a new job by the end of June.
