So my almost 9 YO DS is refusing to wear pants.. he wears those matching Nike/under armour shorts/tshirts with high socks..
Now I know he won't wear jeans bc "you can't play football in jeans mom" so what do your boys wear to school when it gets cold out? Do they have matching sets with pants? I saw nothing at the Nike outlet this weekend, and this is the first year he actually cares lol.
I honestly thought my girls would be the fashion divas not my DS

I don't really care about appearances so I let DS wear whatever he wants. He hates wearing anything without an elastic waistband so in the winter, it's usually sweat pants or slick jogging pants. Occasionally I can find khaki pants that have elastic but it's mostly sweat pants and a long sleeve t-shirt.

As long as they match and they fit, I don't care either. But he wants to wear shorts year round now, and I won't let him lol. It was 40 degrees this morning and he wore shorts, bc I was done fighting about it and hope he freezes to learn his lesson lol.
I was hoping maybe they have fun colored sweats/joggers bc I think that's why he likes the shorts vs the plain athletic pants.. I swear getting them dressed seems to be the worst part of the day in my house!

I just looked at Target's website and they have a few pairs of funky colored joggers (that aren't just camouflage colored). Looks like the Gap also has some that are patterned (although mostly camo but they have a pair of Star Wars, too).

Re: Boys fashion
DS is in High School now. He only wants to wear shorts or sweat pants, or something very similar, and has for many years. A lot of the boys wear the same thing. Jeans are still common, but not ubiquitous like years ago.

Re: Boys fashion
My only rule is weather approprite. My son wears Nike or Adidas track pants or cargo pants. When he was younger, he would also wear sweatpants, but he said 10 year olds dont wear sweat pants. He hates wearing jeans.

DS is only in Kindergarten and he doesn’t care about what he wears, but I was having trouble finding comfy track pants that aren’t so babyish looking. I found great track pants and sweat pants from H&M that have a tapered bottom so they’re “cool” looking IMO lmao.

Re: Boys fashion
DS is pretty into his appearance. He usually wears jeans and a flannel on non gym days and wears Nike and Adidas track pants on gym days (when it is too cold to wear shorts which he always wants to wear) He hates cargo pants and thinks sweatpants shouldn't leave the house but he may have picked that up from me
I try to stock up on the track pants during the Nordstrom anniversary sale but find Kohl's to also have them the cheapest!

Re: Boys fashion
DS is 11 and he only wears sweatpants or pants with elastic waistband. We usually get them in Old Navy. He hasn't owned a pair of jeans in years. He doesn't like to wear long sleeve shirts, the only exception is for the ones with sports fabric, then he wears hoodies a lot.

Re: Boys fashion
DS is 8 and isn't into fashion. This is the first time ever that he asked for a particular shirt and sweatshirt - before that he took no interest in what he was wearing.
He wears jeans on non-gym days - honestly - he prefers sweats or track pants, but I do the laundry and it's what we have on hand. Gym days he wears sweats or track pants with a long sleeve or short sleeve shirt depending on the temps.
He's still young so he doesn't ask to wear shorts 24/7, but I'm sure the time will come - it seems to be the trend.

I don't blame these boys for not wanting to wear jeans! They are so damn uncomfortable! LOL

Re: Boys fashion
Thanks everyone! We went to the mall and he was able to find pants that he'll actually wear. Althetic, apparently non shiny, pants it is. I now know I shouldn't buy his clothes without him

Re: Boys fashion
My students are always in shorts and I look at them like, aren't you freezing?? Some of them will wear the compression tights under their shorts.
But yes, the Under Armour/Nike/etc. tops with matching shorts and socks are all the rage these days lol.

Re: Boys fashion
My 8 year old won't wear jeans. Only "swishy pants." And now my 6 year old is getting to be the same. They say jeans are uncomfortable. The problem is that they are both super skinny and the "swishy pants" fall down. The jeans at least have the drawstring in them so I can make them tigher.

Re: Boys fashion
My son did the shorts and high socks look all year last year. This year he has found compression tights and likes to wear those under shoets. I hate hate hate it. It's the ugliest look ever and he often goes to school mismatched but clothes is not a battle I'm willing to pick. If he's cold, and wears shorts I tell him I don't want to hear it.

My nephew is in 3rd grade and is very picky...only certain athletic brands and only sweat pants (no Hanes, etc.). Seems to be a thing!

My boys are 9 and 12. They wear shorts and basically only shorts. I draw the line on 30 and below but other than that it's shorts everyday.

My almost 8 year old doesn't want to give up the shorts yet. Right now he's wearing them with long socks.
For pants - I get athletic pants from Kohls. He's on the smaller size so he still fits into Jumping Beans for this year.
He won't wear jeans and only wears nice pants for the school concert (which he changes immediately after).
ETA - I usually buy separates and find it easier. I just get the pants in black, gray and navy and they generally match everything.

Re: Boys fashion
My son is almost 9 and doesn't really like jeans either. I found drawstring pants that look like khaki pants at target and sears. He likes those. I also buy a lot of athletic pants but he is also very skinny. I get a needle and thread to stitch it an inch in. works just right.

Re: Boys fashion
My almost 9 year old will wear shorts as far into the fall and as early into spring as he can. Once the high is under 50, I generally try to get him to wear pants. He likes track pants and rarely wears jeans.

Re: Boys fashion
Shorts, tshirt, high socks and hoodie ALL YEAR ROUND. Has to be Nike or Under Armour, basically. No sweats, no joggers, no jeans.
I do make him wear pants if we had a blizzard. He will wear like an adidas type track pant but thats it.
Hes in 5th grade
