Universal Studios
DH and I are going to Orlando for a conference in July. We're considering going down a few days early to do Universal Studios as this will be our first "vacation" since having kids, and we have wanted to go to Universal Studios for years to do Harry Potter World.
Any advice on Universal? Where to stay? How many days will we need without kids to slow us down? What is "must-see" at the parks?

If you stay at one of their "Deluxe" hotels, you get free Express passes, so I would go that route. Especially in July when the lines are LONG. If you stay offsite, I would buy the express pass. I think 2 day park to park tickets are good. The Hogwart's express is the best thing IMO, and you need a park to park to ride it since it connects the two parks.
The absolute best resource for Universal is Orlando Informer! Check out their website. They also have a Facebook group to ask questions!

Re: Universal Studios
Agree with the above!
A cheap, reliable source of tickets is the USSSA (which Bargainmama first told me about!) The 2 day park to park is about $40-$50 cheaper on there PP.
We were just there and you definitely want Express pass if you go in the heat of summer. I feel like the lines aren't always as airconditioned or sheltered as they could be. I won't wait for anything longer than 20-30 minutes and we go in February, so I can't even imagine what it would be like in July.
The Harry Potter areas are as amazing as you have probably already heard. If you get the Butterbeer, try it frozen - the sweetness will be less jarring.
Don't wait too long for Flight of the Hippogriff. The ride is SUPER short. DS (not a complainer) said "THAT'S IT??" pretty loud when it was over.
Have fun!

Ohh I agree about Hippogriff!! We waited FOREVER for that ride, and this was even with the special needs accommodation pass. It's SO short, it reminds of Goofy's Barnstormer at Disney!
Oh YES for sure USSSA!!! Best price I've found!!

When we went in December, we rode the Hippograff over and over and over again! I had to do a rider switch, so I rode it double. We had an Express pass and even the regular line wasn't bad - the area was crowded because of the castle lights, but not a lot of people on the ride. The Hippograff and Woody Woodpecker in Universal Studios were favorites of my 3 year old. She would scream when she had to wait for my 5 year old's turn.
