Cooking on vacation?
I don't like to rent houses bc of this. I don't want to food shop or cook on vacation. BUT when we do get a group/family together and are forced to rent a house - yes we have a cooking schedule. It works out well actually. Each family gets a night and we are responsible for buying the food and cooking for that one night. I like that better than me being expected to cook every night lmao

Re: Cooking on vacation?
It depends on the type of vacation.
It totally makes sense when you are staying in a remote location or a bunch of you are in a house together (beach house, ski house).
I do get a bigger place with kids for meal prep. It’s nice at times not to spend a $$$ out.

Cooking on vacation?
No way. I don’t even want to make my own coffee on vacation.

This! Making the coffee is ok, but cleaning the pot is annoying!
We recently did breakfast in room at Disney. It was ok since we had all disposable dishes, simple food, and the alternative was crowded.
Generally, if I’m cooking, I’m not on a real vacation

Cooking on vacation?
I have never done that type of vacation and I don't want to. When we went to Disney, we stayed off-site in a condo, so we had a kitchen. We only used it to make coffee and toast bagels. We never actually cooked a meal. If we have to cook and clean up after ourselves, it is a "trip", not a "vacation"!

That's why I love that the place we stay in Jersey has a Keurig instead of a coffee pot in the kitchen. No pot to clean!

Re: Cooking on vacation?
If I get a place with a kitchen, then I will make breakfast. Pick up some eggs and bacon. Depending on how lazy I am, I will sometimes make lunch. It also depends on the location. If the place has great markets, then I pick up some local food and make lunch.
I never make dinner when I travel. That time is to experience the local food.

Cooking on vacation?
It depends on the type of vacation as a previous poster said. If renting a house, then yes, I can see how it makes sense for everyone to cook.
We’ve stayed in hotels with full kitchens, but the most we do is pick up cereal and milk to have in the room for breakfast. I don’t really wantnto cook while on vacation!
One time we rented a house in Martha’s Vineyards with some of DH’s high school friends (pre-kids) and one of the couples had all of our meals planned for everyday. It was posted on the fridge lol. I hated it! Part of vacation, for me, is trying out new restaurants, exploring the town, etc...

Re: Cooking on vacation?
No. We go to Myrtle Beach each year and stay in a condo w/ full kitchen but we rarely cook. We buy groceries for breakfast and lunch and eat dinner out.

Re: Cooking on vacation?
When we go camping, we cook. We honestly eat better there than when we're home bc I hate cooking. lmao. In general though, I rent airbnbs with kitchens and will use it for breakfast or lunch but nothing more than that. No elaborate meals, I prefer to eat out whenever possible.

Re: Cooking on vacation?
So, my ex husband's family does this, but each family takes a night, and you can choose if you're going to cook, order in or pay for everyone to go out.
It's nice because it means you're really only paying for that dinner (but for 20ish people)
Everyone is given specific other goods to bring and you can bring your own stuff too. Like my DS was a baby so I brought baby food and snacks too

Cooking on vacation?
We almost always rent houses or condos. I hate being stuck in just a hotel room so yes we cook. And if it’s a big group you only cook once!

Re: Cooking on vacation?
To me, a vacation does not include cooking...but when we go away with my family, we cook one night each and eat out the rest. I accept it because my family likes this.
