February break airfare?

How much can I expect to pay for airfare from JFK to Ft. Lauderdale for February break? I'd fly Jetblue or Delta. So far I'm seeing close to 500 a ticket. I'd even consider Southwest from Islip and just park there. I'm planning on going from Sunday to Thursday to save money as those days seem to have the lowest fares. We would be staying with my in laws.

That price is about what you could expect to pay. Prices are doubled for breaks typically! Sunday is probably what is making it $$$. I try to stagger my trips to leave well after the weekend on February break...so fly out Tuesday, then come back the following week on Monday or Tuesday (missing a day of school or so).

Sunday is actually much cheaper than Saturday, like half the price almost it seems like. Unfortunately I work in a school so I can't take an extra day off.

I missed the part that you said you are going to FLL. Orlando is where we go on February break. FLL is expensive in general. It was around $500 to fly into there earlier this year when we went for a wedding in April

It’s peak season. It will be high. In October (over holiday weekend), I was getting $450 when pricing.

We're flying that week JFK to Sarasota and it's about $400/ticket on JetBlue for Sun-Sat. Leaving Monday brought the ticket down if that's an option for you, but we didn't want to cut the trip a day shorter.

I also checked JFK-Tampa and JFK-Orlando and thy were all $$$.

I think flying when schools are off is just expensive!

Re: February break airfare?

When I flew spring break I found that flying mid week- like Wed- and coming home Sunday (school was back on on Monday) was so much cheaper.
Most people want to go for the whole week so the flights right at the start of the break are more money.

But going half a week saved us money on airfare, less nights in a hotel and it was more than enough time for a nice, quick getaway.

I found that the hotel emptied out by like Friday too, most people were heading home by Friday

ETA- this was for Tampa .

Re: February break airfare?

We've done Feb break almost every year and we've done it a million different ways.

One year we planned well in advance and booked the minute they released airfares so it wasn't too terrible. That was several years ago though when airfare in general was lower and I think it's no longer feasible.

One year we all just took the extra day and came back Monday (not ideal for me - I'm a teacher.)

One year we flew into Jacksonville. It was about $900 less than Orlando for a family of 4 and only 2.5 hours away.

Otherwise we've done Sunday - Friday or thereabouts and found that much cheaper than the full week.

Update: we may drive to Philadelphia and fly from there. Airfare is around 650 for 3 tickets!
