Any schools NOT lose February break?
My school decided to get the days back in other ways, and we're keeping February break as is. I haven't heard of any other schools doing that, so I'm just curious....

Re: Any schools NOT lose February break?
Nothing has been officially announce yet in my district as the board has yet to met on the issue. However, our calendar states that in the rare case our 2 built in snow days are lost we start to take from spring break.
Even though we were out of school 6 days, we really only need to make up three as we held classes on Supt Conference Day AND there were 2 snow days built in. I've heard the Board wants us to go back for 6 but if they do that on spring break one of the days lands on Good Friday and/or Passover. Let's see how that convo goes over in front of the community

I'm curious how you made them up? I really thought everyone would do spring break, but I guess the way the holidays fell, only wednesday and maybe thursday would be ok.

We haven't lost it yet, but it was only a four day break to begin with. We do expect to lose it but no official word.

I'm at a private school. We aren't losing any days. They changed around our midterm schedule in January to account for it. We also have classes on Veterans Day and Election Day so that is already 2 extra days built in.

Re: Any schools NOT lose February break?
They changed the calendar a little... Luckily, we have extra days built into the calendar already, so they got rid of those first (3 snow days). Then, they: Switched Parent Teacher Conference Day to regular classes Switched mid term week to regular classes (4 days of just tests and no classes in January) which cancels mid terms completely. 2 days off of Easter break - the first day and the last day 1 additional Superintendent's Conference Day after graduation
That leaves us with no snow days though, so in the event that we have snow days, some days will start to be taken off of the Easter break. But they've decided to give us 2 free snow days before we lose any more time.
I'm actually incredibly impressed at the thought they put into it and how much they tried to keep the calendar intact.

We haven't been told yet. I am assuming that we will lose Feb break. All I hope is that if my daughter's district and the district I work in have matching days because I don't feel like trying to figure out child care issues.

Re: Any schools NOT lose February break?
I'm in a catholic school in Long Beach. We lost more days than I think some other schools. We were told today we are losing feb break (minus presidents day). We are also losing Holy Thursday and a day in May. Honestly, we can not even afford one snow day!

Re: Any schools NOT lose February break?
Or district is not making decisions until January when the state legislature meets and hopefully responds to our excusal request. The State Education Department can excuse up to five days due to extraordinary conditions. Additional waivers can also be given. My administration and union are both unhappy that so many districts have changed plans already as if they anticipate we will be denied.

We lost all of our Feb break, even President's day. Our school board said that they were flat out told by SED that they will not consider excusing days until all vacation days were used. We've already been told that if we have a bad winter we will lose some or all of the spring break as well.
When the elementary PTA presidents lobbied Albany to cancel the state tests this year in impacted districts since students are already so stressed out over having to relocate, etc. they were told to talk to upstate districts since they were able to figure it out post-Irene.

Re: Any schools NOT lose February break?
We lost it and were told if you take days off you will be docked and a letter placed in your file. The letter from the Supt. was probably one of the nastiest things I ever read.

DISLIKE! wtf- it was an act of God
Those in districts where students and teachers alike were displaced/heavily affected may agree that taking away the vacation is like adding insult to injury. I was outraged at some of the comments on the News12 FB page where people started bashing teachers and SD's, saying things like "get over it, school is for learning" etc. UGH, ridiculous!
The SD I work in (although I am on leave) has taken away Weds/Thurs/Fri of Feb break and the 2 supposed snow days.
DH's district has required them to make up 2 days at the end of the year but has given them off for Mon/Tues and Fri of Feb break. I guess the federal holidays, but what's with the Friday?
